My wife and I are cat people, we currently have three cats, but outside of litters, we've had as many as 4. My wife would easily adopt more, but I'm the one who ends up taking care of them... and as much as I like cats, three are already a handful.
Our oldest cat is Georgette. She's about 18-years old, short-haired black cat (I'm terrible at breeds). She seems to be completely deaf, and has obvious cataracts in her eyes. She moves carefully around, but can still leap when she needs to. She is still affectionate, actually a bit on the jealous side towards the other cats, which is understandable. We just try to keep her as comfortable as possible these days. She was, at one time, an outdoors cat, so she was never declawed.
Next down the line is Shadow, a 7-year old Tortie female who is about as sweet you can imagine a cat being. Her thing is to lick people's noses, and she doesn't quite grasp 'personal space' when it comes to laying on your lap (more like laying on your upper chest, nuzzled under your chin). She's only been out of our house for grooming and vet visits. She was born here as part of a litter of 7 kittens (her brothers and sisters a mixed bag of breeds, and adopted out to good homes, her mother a stray my wife adopted, and later went to live with an elderly woman as a companion animal)
Lastly, but not least is the little prince of our feline kingdom... Taz is a 2-year old long-haired black cat that my wife brought home from an apartment of some friends of our oldest son (lots of smoking, my wife said Taz was literally wheezing). He is loving in his own aloof way, usually choosing his time to return affection, which for me is only when I am on the computer (same with my youngest, though he does sleep with our youngest in his computer desk/bunk bed). He is terribly skittish - though he has been here for most of his life now, and none of the other cats are rude to him.
