:wavey: Morning to all! We had our first rain (downpour, actually) and storms in our new home last night. The roof is a pitched, flat, rubber roof. I have always loved the sound of rain, light or heavy. The sound of the rain coming down on the roof was incredible. It was not loud but very, very soothing. Almost sounded like popcorn being popped from another room, another sound I like. It just lulled us to sleep. The previous owner's, who loved this house and whom we still email daily (lol), told us how much they miss the sound of the rain on the roof and that we were in for a treat when it rained. No joke! SO.......... this gave me an idea for my question of the day for today.

What is one of your favorite sounds? :happy3:

Considering that I am waiting for yet another blizzard and subsequent plunge into the never-ending deep freeze, the song of the Prairie Horned Lark. They start singing when the weather is going to warm, and I suspct that welcome song is going to be very late this year as they went south for the first ime in a few years, not that south is very far for them, but, it is, nevertheless, south

I can only dream of such sounds, Rigel. That would be a "sound come true" for me someday. :Raindrops: :Tree:

I love the sound of the native birds in New Zealand. Such a cacophony! Especially the tuis, which have become much more common since I was a kid.

I woke to the sound of a hard rain pelting the windows this morning. It made me want to hide under the covers, especially as it's the middle of winter and you just know that's a cold, nasty rain!

Ooh. What a good question!

I have a couple, so it's hard to pick only one favorite. :D

I never wear headphones when I'm running - first, because I think it's dangerous on the streets of NYC...you must be able to hear everything. And second, when I get to Central Park, I love the sounds of nature, especially if I hear a cardinal start singing. I always stop and try to find out what tree it's in.

The sound of the ocean waves....both during the day, if I'm in a remote place, or especially at night, when it's the only sound you can hear.

The sound of wind rushing through lush trees in the mountains.

And definitely the steady sound of rain on the roof.

Love this question.

Being that I am hearing impaired, and my hearing aids comes out when I take a shower, bath or go swimming...

My favorite sound is water. Splashing water. I don't get to truly hear it and often at all, and I appreciate it when I do. Sometimes when my tub is full of water, I'd take a moment to splash the water just to listen to it before my hearing aids comes out.

Some people just don't appreciate certain, every day sounds, until they lose it or never heard it before.

I also love the sound of the rain hitting on my mobile home roof.  You're right, it can be very soothing.  I also love the sound of the ocean waves hitting the beach, that's also very soothing.

I actually don't care to hear rain when I'm sleeping.  Our first home was a single-wide metal sided and roofed trailer.  You know that sound when you flex a thin metal cookie sheet or saw?  Imagine that on 4 sides of you plus loud rain....  I used to sleep in the living room when storms would beat against our master bedroom.  It would give me a headache.  Once before DH and I were married we were there with a big bunch of friends when it started really down pouring.  It was literally so loud we all sat there just looking at each other while the heaviest rain passed.  I love how quiet it is in my house now when it rains!

Yes, I'm with rain (my mother told me when I was very young that it was the sound of fairies dancing on the roof and I still smile when I think of it) and my lovely garden birds.

And of course, Sundar's loud and contented purr..

I would love to be able to hear rain in the tropical forest!

I love to go to sleep with the sound of a gentle rain outside. It's not raining hard enough that we have to close the windows. It's a perfect sound at night and I can usually fall right into sleep.

Mani, fairies dancing on the roof.......how beautiful!

Over the river and through the woods...
I love thunder! Both the "softly rolling in the distance" kind and the "shake your house and feel it in your chest" kind. Actually, I think I like the loud ones best...I'm just not too keen on the lightning that comes with them! I also love the sound of coffee being made (that may also be a smell factor).
