Hello everyone ! I am going to neuter my 9 months old female cat next Monday and I am a little anxious about possible complications etc. Her vet said he is going to do a less invasive procedure than the traditional spaying and the benefits will be : smaller incision, pain reduction and a quicker return to normal activity. I am not sure but I think it is called ovariectomy; then the next 3 days antibiotics shots.

1. Are there any do's and don'ts before the surgery?

2. Has anyone heard about this new less invasive technique?

3. Any post surgery complications symptoms I should be aware of?

Any advice is welcomed. Thank you !

PS: My vet is just VERY positive and confident. Every time I ask for possible complications etc. he is just telling me not to worry. I would just like to be aware. He DID told me not to feed her after 10 pm the night before the surgery.

I think the answer to #1 is simply don't feed her anything (or let her drink anything either I'm thinking) after 10 p.m. the night before the surgery)

As far as the answer to #2, I had not heard of it, but since you posed the question, I read up on it, and it seems very reasonable to me to have this done rather than the full ovariohysterectomy, mainly for the reasons your Vet gave you...less invasive means quicker recovery time, less pain, even less anesthesia.

For #3, this is something you'll need to ask the Vet about, but I would think whatever they are, they will be less than with a full spay

I don't know where you are located, but in Europe, this is the procedure they more commonly use!  (they are way ahead of the U.S.!!)

Let us know how it goes.  Sounds like your furbaby is in good hands.

Thank you for replying. Yes, I remembered he mentioned the water too.

I live in Europe and he said he's familiar with it, and that it's an easier procedure and it's better for the animal. He actually said she will recover 100% in 2-3 days which is great.

Hope everything will go smoothly !

Thank you again !
