As I seem to have problems saving money.......

How do you find it best to save up? Put money in another bank account, a money box?

I have trouble saving due to bills. I've decided to do my best to stop using my credit cards to get the bills down, THEN I'll be able to start putting money in the bank.

YUP! Hard to save when you live check to check. Any extra money I have had has been spent on Angel's vet bills! (& good food for him).

Change accumalates very fast and putting bills in the water bottle container makes it hard to pull it out:)  Seems whenever there is extra it is needed for a vet bill, car or house issue.  Or all three at once.

We have a "Keep The Change" savings account where our purchases on our debit card are rounded up and deposited automatically. We also have auto deposits every payday into that account. We usually end up transferring some of that when a major payment like car insurance is due. It really is nice to have something to fall back on in tough times.

We budget for everything, even savings. It's the only way we're going to get anywhere. Our big thing has always been saving for retirement. Rick and I each have a 401K (for what it's worth since the economy tanked) and we each have Roth IRAs (again with the economy, although we're both fairly conservative with our accounts, Rick is more so than me). As for regular savings, all my change goes into a jar and then into a savings account and once I have a certain amount I get a CD....although last year we used quite a bit of change savings for kitchen remodeling.

I save all my change....even pennies will add up to something.

We have been married for 27 years and from the start we have never bought anything we can't pay for in cash. I know that is not easy but it can be done. We live way under our means and are frugal. Many people over-extend themselves and use credit. We are the opposite. We do have a credit card and use it all the time but we pay if off in full every single month. By being that way, we were able to pay off our mortgage on the house we had in Illinois. We put all extra money to the mortgage in recent years and bypassed stocks and funds. It was the smartest thing we have done! Still don't buy anything we can't pay for immediately with cash. :)

We have a change jar at home. All of our change, well, mostly Larry's :lol3:, goes into that jar. It adds up to a couple of hundred of dollars rather quickly!! Yep, even pennies.

I have a set amount of each paycheck automatically deposited in my savings account, while the rest goes into my checking. I used to get CDs with the savings but there's no point in doing it now; the interest rates are next to nothing.

I have an IRA with employer-matched contributions, but I don't mess with it, or even know much about it :lol3:. I suppose I should look into that :tongue2:.

You guys think like we do. We paid off our mortgage early by adding a little each month to apply to principal. It really pays. We have credit cards but always pay the bill in full when we get it. If we can't afford something, we don't buy it. The bonus points we get on our Master Card gets redeemed tor restaurant gift cards so we can treat ourselves. Have had our IRA's for years and while they don't earn an awful lot these days, it's our "nest egg". We also have a jar for pennies and loose change. Still have to take them to cash them in, but it does add up.

We're big on paying off the credit cards in full each month. And we use them as much as possible so the points add up. As a result, we get cheques from our credit card company every month! :woo: And the other card gets used at the grocery store: points = free groceries.

I don't believe in credit cards anymore. I had to cut them up.  If believe if you don't have the money, stay out of the stores. Don't go to the stores just to ''look'' it will just get  you in deeper with the credit cards.

I have investments taken directly out of my pay. I also have money taken out for a simple saving account for an emergency fund. Anything else from the paycheck goes toward bills, food, and frivolous things that I want. I also have a spare change jar. I don't spend much on clothing, never go on vacation. I eat cheaply, but healthily. I have a weakness for fine jewelry, though--that's my hobby (sure wish I had taken up beer bottle collecting. It would be much cheaper!)  Since I spend little on anything else but the cats, bills, and food, I can afford a few little luxuries here and there. Now, though, I have a car payment--for the first time in 16 years--so that will have to be cut back!

I use mainly 1 credit card: one that gives me cash back every time I use it.  I put just about everything, from gas to eBay purchases on it, and pay it off in full every month. I've had credit cards for 20 years, and have always done this.

I received a nice chunk of inheritance money last summer. I paid off some bills, bought $500-worth of storage cabinets for the garage, gave DH $1000 for Christmas, toward re-doing his bathroom, and took out a few thousand for the car downpayment. I did say I'd buy myself a nice piece of bling--but that hasn't happened yet! I plan on keeping 90% of it for savings/emergencies. Yes, I'm CHEAP.

I have a 401k and a 403b. I also have a stock portfolio. I acquired these through my employer when I worked full time. They were all automatic payroll deductions. Without them I doubt I'd have saved much.
