Have a tortie that was brought to us as a kitten with its eyes closed it was that young. The rednecks that gave her to my wife were going to kill her because she was completely stopped up with mucus and choking to death in able to breath. We took turns holding her with her head down for several days so the mucus would drain out so shed keep breathing. We saved her and now she's 8 years old and every two weeks for the last year her right nose hole gets blocked and she has a sneezing fit where she holds the left nostril shut with her left paw and spins in a circle sneezing until she blows out a huge chunk if bloody hard mucus. Its bigger than her nose hole if you can believe it. Vets didn't know what to do with her. As she gets older seems like its harder for her to blow it out. Is there some nasal spray that might help her get this out. Sometimes she wants to breath bengae which will trigger a sneeze attack. Any ideas?

I don't know about nasal sprays.. I imagine someone will be along soon who will know more.

But just as an idea.. I had a cat with chronic nasal issues and I used to make sure that she got lots of steam (put her in the bathroom when showering etc) and I would also constantly rinse her eyes with warm saline.  Quite a bit of it would go down from the corner of her eye to the nostrils and soften the mucus.  Just a thought.

And welcome to TCS!

Poor kitty, sounds very uncomfortable. I know with myself a humidifier helps a lot, and I have prescription nasal spray (I have a lot of sinus issues) but with a cat I'd be very wary of using a spray as they're quite powerful and you could do some damage.

Her tear duct on that side is blocked. Her tears drain out down her cheek. We keep it wiped for her. I'm thinking if that tear duct could be opened it might help keep her nostril open. I'm scared a vet would damage her and charge us more than we could ever afford.

wulfdog, just try rinsing her eyes with warm saline... you need to make sure it is just warm.  If you use a tear-dropper and hold her head back so it sits for a moment, it can help to unblock the duct.  Also massaging the area oh-so gently with very clean fingers while the drops are in.

She's a great-looking cat!
