Hi Danielle. Welcome to TCS. Your kitty is precious! Floyd is one of my favorite names for a cat. How old is he? What is his personality like?

Are you looking for specific advice or some cat care tips in general? You came to the right place to talk about cats

Hey  :)

Lots and lots of general advice :) as much as possible. I want him to have the best life possible (as an indoor cat).

He is 6 weeks and 5 days old (too soon to be taken i know). I got him yesterday. He is very playful he plays for 2 hours then naps for 20 minutes this has been repeating this all day.

He is eating and drinking from his water bowl and is also using his littler tray.

He is also enjoying watching the fish on Tv.

How exciting to have your first kitten! He's as cute as a button. 6 weeks is young but I got mine around 7-8 weeks and he adjusted into a delightful cat. Do you have a safe room for him to stay in while you're out? A bathroom works well if you can kitten proof it. Nothing in there that he could swallow or get hurt with. Leave his food, water, and litter in there so he can be safe when he is alone. If he seems scared or nervous you could try a Feliway diffuser. They mimic a mother cat's pheremones and can help little ones away from their mothers feel safe. I used it with my kitties.

Because he is young he hasn't had a chance to learn any cat manners from mom or litter mates. You can help teach him. Don't use a water bottle or any form of punishment, cats don't learn that way. It will only teach them to be afraid of you. When he does something you don't want, like scratching furniture, remove him and re-direct him to a scratching toy immediately. Don't use your hands to play rough with him or he will think it's ok to scratch or nibble on them. Use a toy like a Kickeroo to play with him. Toys that hang on a string from a pole like Da Bird are great too. This way he will learn that hands are for petting and toys are for rough play.

The play hard and sleep hard routine is normal for a kitten. One day he will have a nice mellow in-between mode where he will just hang-out.

I would get him nuetered when you can. He might be too little now.  Non fixed males can be more aggresive and spray urine inside once they are older. You definately want to get him fixed even if he is indoor only. Has he been tested for worms yet?

As far as food goes, wet is healthier than dry. What is he eating? Higher protein and low carb is best for cats. I have some suggestions if you need some.

Try to scoop the litter twice a day. This is a lot better for Floyd and easier on you than dealing with a gross box every few days. Some cats won't use a dirty box and since he is using it fine, keeping it very clean will help keep it this way.

The most important advice is give Floyd lots of hugs and kisses everday
. He will grow up in the blink of an eye.

Just another thought... The best thing I ever did for my young kitten was get him a brother. He was soooo happy to have a buddy and they heve been in love with each other ever since. He became a much more settled and content kitty immediately. When I brought the new kitten home my resident cat looked at me like "Oh boy! Is he for me?!! ".

Hi, Thank you,

we have ordered one of those defusers it should be here monday, also ordered a snuggle kitten. He has been tested by where we got him but i am taking him to the vet for a check up at the soonest opportunity so that i know for sure. Though he is in the middle of treatment for it, due to have the drops a week on tuesday.

We are currently feeding him Altons Premium Kitten food which he was eating in the pet store. He is eating this at home too.

Since we got him yesterday we have had a small play area in the sitting room and put him in a kitten proofed bathroom to sleep last night to which he behaved a treat.

I have been trying to keep him worn out today so that he will sleep tonight.

I am a little nervous that he will cry in the day and annoy my neighbours, do you know much about how loud a cats cry can be? Do you think if he is at least 3 rooms away from my neighbours that they would be able to hear him?

Hopefully the neighbors won't hear him. I don't think they will. Let's hope he isn't crying anyway. My kitten slept a lot during the day. Are the neighbors friendly? Do they know about the cat yet? Maybe they could be patient even if they hear a little noise, knowing that you are moving soon anyway?

You could try leaving a radio on with soft music for him. Some people say cats like classical music. This might keep him calm and also drown out any crying noises.

Thats another piece of great advice :):)

I will try the classical music when we are out. Just as a precaution. No they do not know about him. Though i know others in the apartment block also have cats.

If he is seen to "make any noise" we will be asked to leave so thats why we are being so cautious :) Due to the no noise policy in the the apartments another kitten probably isnt the key :/ plus i wouldnt want to over face myself with responsibility as i do work full time.

Though as you said it will not be a problem soon :)
