12 years old. Has lost much wait and is only bones.  I brought him home with me two days ago.. vet said he may have diabetes.  Waiting to get bloodtest results, but now the poor animal is not eating or drinking and seems only to want to be held...should I give him sugar water? HELP us please.

NancyFancy again.  I apologize for the misspelling of weight in my post "Mom's cat is dying?".  I am so upset about this wonderful cat and his health.  I hope someone out there can give me advice. God bless.

You-could-try-mixing-1-teaspoon-Gerber-baby-food,chicken-or-turkey-only,mixed-with-warm-water,so-its-like-a-broth,or-thick-soup,or-see-if-he-will-lick-some-off-your-fingers.You-could-also-try-Nurtrical,you-get-it-at-Petsmart-or-Petco.It-looks-like-toothpaste,kinda-that-consistancy,and-see-if-he-will-lick-some-off-your-fingers,or-put-some-on-his-paw,or-smear-some-on-his-lips.

He-may-also-be-dehydrated,which-would-cause-him-to-not-feel-good-and-not-want-to-eat.Surprised-the-vet-didn't-give-him-Sub-Q-fluids.You-can-try-giving-him-luke-warm-water-in-a-syringe,to-get-some-fluids-in-him,but-I-would-skip-the-sugar.

The-others-will-have-good-suggestions-too.

If it's diabetes, try some Fancy Feast classic variety. Also check out felinediabetes.com. They have forum as well to help. Definitely read every article and sticky posts on that site! They are great about helping newbies too.

Do you have a glucometer? Relion from Walmart for humans is a good one.

I had to spoonfeed my old diabetic the Fancy Feast classics due to no appetite. The classics variety is low carb and most cats go crazy for it.

Did the Vet ever get back with you on what might be wrong.  How is this little furbaby doing today?  Did he ever eat or drink anything?  It could be that he just feels so awful that food is turning his stomach.  You could try giving him 1/4 of a Pepcid A/C (over the counter stuff), which helps counteract nausea.  My elderly cat with kidney disease had to have Pepcid A/C twice a day to keep from throwing up.  He was also just skin and bones.

Did you try assist feeding him (using a needleless syringe to slowly push watered down food into the side of his mouth) so he wold get some nourishment?  Here is a thread about assist feeding that you may find helpful  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/227858/syringe-feeding-lucky-video-if-your-cat-is-not-eating
