Hi everyone!
I'm very happy to have found this website and now be a part of it. Let me introduce you to Sherlock and myself.
I am a recently graduated law student (May 2012) and Sherlock was my "Buy Something Ridiculous" from the 10 Things You Will Do While Studying For the Bar (and yes, I did do most of those things). All through law school I kept saying that as soon as I got a job, I would get a cat (because I needed an income before getting a pet). I'm sad to say that I made it through 2 bar classes before turning to my friends and going "I'm getting a cat this Saturday." I had no job (but I got one shortly thereafter, coincidentally). I got my boy from the shelter at the Petsmart. I had looked at several cats and kittens that day, and my friend told me I should look at him, and when I got him from the shelter worker, he curled up on my lap and started purring like a motor. He got up and gingerly explored his environment and let my friends pet him and pick him up. We just CONNECTED! And my friends kept telling me he was the one, and who was I to disagree. When I told the worker I wanted him, she looked at me and went "Hallellujah! We thought he would never be adopted. Every single person who has tried to pick him up, he has hissed at them, bit them, and tried to make a break for the cage." Clearly it was meant to be.
I've had cats before (well, the cats were "mine" but my mom took care of them) when I was young (middle school and high school) and none since then. Sherlock is the first one that is MINE. He is a black/sable domestic short hair with yellow eyes with green around the pupils. And he has tufts of white in his coat. He is very energetic, affectionate, but is not a lap cat and doesn't like to be picked up by anyone beside me (and even then sometimes he runs away). He loves playing tag, loves playing fetch, loves his wand toys and his cat grass.
He's been pretty ill since November but I think he's on the mend now. He got FLUTD the second week of November, then what we suspect was an URI, and now suspected hairball (that's made him regurgitate for a week straight, but we are now 2 days regurgitation free). I tried to switch him to a raw diet, which he took fairly well until the regurgitation, so now we're back to the canned food until I'm sure he's back to eating normally. I've only had him 8 months and already he has taught me more about cats and their health than I have ever known. Hopefully, after this long bout of illness, he will be a healthy kitty for the rest of his life.
Thanks for this wonderful site chuck full of amazing people and invaluable information!!
