I haven't seen any poop from Poppy for almost 2 days now. She usually poops once a day. I did give her some pumpkin this morning, but nothing yet, and she usually poops by now.

She does not seem uncomfortable. How long should I wait before taking her to the vet? Is there something else I can do to get the output system going?

She did have a dental cleaning on Sun. On Mon. there was very little urine and poop, and then on Tues. lots of both. Wed. normal amount of urine, small amount of poop. Then Thurs. and today nothing. Could the dental and anesthesia have anything to do with it, throwing everything off schedule maybe?

She did act like she could've had a hairball yesterday, but nothing came out.

She currently is not raw feeding. Had some setbacks, so she's just getting commercial wet right now.

Thanks for any advice.

Has she been trying to poop? Has she been straining? Vomiting?

How much pumpkin did you give her? I'd give her up to three teaspoons every 24 hours. She'll probably poop by tomorrow. If not, at that point I'd probably want an x-ray to make sure there's not a blockage. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Thanks for the reply.

I haven't seen her try to poop, but her schedule is to poop while I'm away at work. No straining, but then again maybe I'm not here to see it. She doesn't act tense otherwise--you wouldn't be able to tell, I just know because there's nothing in the box.

She did make noises like she was going to vomit yesterday morning, but nothing happened.

I gave her 1.5 teaspoons pumpkin in the a.m. and another 1.5 just now.

I found some internet mentions that the antibiotic she's on, clindamycin hydrochloride, can cause constipation, but it's more often diarrhea. I've called the vet to see what they say.

It is 6:30 here, in California, and I am very lucky. My vet's regular hours at 9 a.m - 10 p.m.! If they don't call after a few hours, I'll call back. Will try to post what they say in case the information proves useful to other in the future.

Oh that's great! I'm on the east coast, and our vets are open until 8:00pm - but they have a service, and will always call back if we feel it's important enough to place the "emergency" call. :lol3: (We gave the vet a LOT of wine the first year we had the kitties, because EVERYTHING was an emergency, and we were often meeting him at the practice at 10:00 or 11:00pm. :anon: ).

Well, the vet has not called back yet but...

POOP! Two somewhat large ones.

I'd like to keep feeding the pumpkin until the antibiotics course is done (Wed., I believe.). Is this OK? Should I continue to feed 1.5 teaspoons/meal, or is this a little high?

The vet called. He said that constipation is a side effect of the sedation and antibiotic. Giving her 1.5 teaspoons of pumpkin per meal is good until I'm out of antibiotic, and I should not let her go more than 1.5-2 days without some sort of bowel output.
