Our Cat gave birth this am to, so far ... 5 kittens ... Only 1 alive - the rest are stillborn.  She is laying on them, as if to protect them or not let them go.  She let out a loud cry earlier as if to be grieving, I'm sure.  I'm not sure what to do, as yet, I would think she should be given a little time to grieve ... before trying to remove them from her.  And then there is the question of proper disposal of the stillborn kittens.  I feel so sad for the Mama cat.

They must be removed, she will then focus on the live kitten

Either bury in the garden or wrap and dispose in the rubbish, or you can take them to a vets.

Thanks missymotus.

As soon as she got up and went to eat ... we removed them and did just that.

Be careful, she can get pregnant again very quickly especially with just one kitten.  Don't let her out until she has been spayed.

I am sorry your cat went through all that and lost the kittens. I agree, get her spayed as soon as possible.

I'm so sorry you have to do something like this, it must be heartbreaking to see those tiny babies. Kiss momma and the babe for me, focus on the little one. God bless.

There is a possibility that with just one kitten suckling,  she won't make enough milk.   Keep an eye on the weight of the kitten and the amount of milk the mom produces.   Top-up the kitten with formula milk if needed.

How sad.

If she seems sad and/or produces a lot of milk--and if you are willing--call around to rescue organizations to see if they have any orphaned kittens.  They could maybe have a substitute mother.

Happened in a situation I was involved with; but "Myrtle" was an amazing cat, mother.  She was very willing and able to have some orphan kittens nurse from her.

Use your best judgement in this case; you know your cat best.
