I am from California originally but have been teaching English in a rural town in China for the past three years. In the last year I rescued this traumatized kitten that was being sold from cage on the side of a busy highway, along with some puppies. My heart sank when I saw this poor little tabby. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this kind of request, but I figured starting with cat lovers was a good bet.

My partner and I will travel to Africa to volunteer and don't have the money to go back home to the States first. That means we have two choices. We can leave our dear Zuma here in China, rural China at that, where cats are not so much the beloved pets that they are in the States, or other western countries for the matter. Or we can put her on a plane and send her to our family in Ohio. The trouble with this is that it costs roughly the same amount as if one of us was flying back ourselves.

I'm asking for small donations to help my cats trip back home. If I can get this message to a thousand people that donate one dollar each, I'd just a lout be able to send her home! So please help me get the message out! I have set up a website for my dear cat, Zuma. Please check this website and pass it along.

Thank you for reading my story!

From the Mod Team Regarding Pleas for money:

Cats are a huge responsibility. Anyone who thinks otherwise, should not have one in their life. They are dependent on us for everything from providing a place to eat, to also providing vet care.

Anyone who has cats knows that they can and do get ill. Your best defense is to plan for that to happen before it does, and store monies away in preparation.

If you read about a plight of an animal on the internet and your heart is drawn to help. Check out the story thoroughly. Google the vet's name or call Directory Assistance in the city and be sure this is a legitimate claim.

Do not blindly send money into a paypal account no matter how heart-wrenching the story. Instead reach out to the member and ask for the vet's name and phone number, and arrange to send the money there for the specific needs of the cat in question.

If that information cannot be provided- you have your answer. Report the post to a moderator so that it can be removed for not being on the level.

I understand the reluctance in trusting any post such as my own, as there are so many scams on the Internet these days. And I have no proof that I am, in fact, being honest to a T. I hope that the community here trusts my sincerity, as bad as it is to have to face the possibility that I may have to leave my cat here in China, it is equally bad to be thought of as a scam artist, of which I am not. My cat is in good health, there are no vets that can be contacted. She only needs a plane ticket, and to prove that is near impossible. I thank anyone who has read this.

Nobody's saying you're a scam artist, it's just the usual warning :D.

Well, the thing is, you can't fly a cat to the States without a health certificate, signed by a vet. I believe a rabies shot is required as well, with the rabies certificate signed by a vet. So you'll need to find a vet somewhere---usually the big cities will have one. Have you looked into all the requirements? It would be awkward to get all the donations and then find out you haven't done everything she needs in order to fly. I think the American embassy will have the info you'll need.

Thank you for your reply. I have definitely looked in to the requirements, in fact I have downloaded a PDF booklet full of everything required to get her home safely. I have a vet here in town that will fill out a health certificate and a friend that can help me translate it into English so both sides, China and the USA, are satisfied. There are pet relocation services that do things like this professionally, but they charge astronomical prices. The nice things is, they also give you all the information you need to do it yourself.

Good luck with this endeavor.  I truly hope you and Zuma and your partner will all eventually end up  in Ohio!

I am also adding in my hopes that you can get Zuma safely to Ohio as that would be the best outcome for her future. Loads and load of vibes that you can find a way. Good luck! :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: ZUMA :rub:
