My Peekabo had to have 2 large abscesses removed. (1/18 surgery-home 1/19)He has two drains and is home recovering nicely (wandering, climbing on the back of his chair, etc.) . He is eating wet cat food and some of his dry. He is using his litter box. I can't get him to drink his water. I remove his e-collar to eat and sit closely to make sure he doesn't try to lick the drainage site and he'll eat just fine but snubs the water dish. I even changed the bowl size to see if that helped. Nope. It's difficult to change things up as his brother Nealan is blind I notice when I remove the e-collar his lower back twitches.(right below where he's shaved) I have a call in to our vet as I'm a little concerned. Any thoughts?

if you are concerned about water consumption feed wet cat food add 1/2tbs water in one can of wet cat food and feed it to him i did that with my 3yr old main coon tortie mix Mewlittle when she was having problems it helped her bounce back i had to do that on 2 occasions with her

He may have been given fluids at the vet's and that may be contributing to his lack of drinking.  I'm paranoid about water consumption because I had a cat with kidney failure, so I always add water to my cats' wet food just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for all the advice Willowy, Mewlittle! I did put water in his wet food and he gobbled all of it up. Stephanietx, I understand about kidney failure, my Pitbull Keena  was dx'd with it last year and passed away. I didn't put 2 and 2 together about the vet giving him fluids...he was "out" so he had an IV...

Anyway, THANKS...water in

Karen
