Angel is about 3 or 4, a female spayed short haired inside cat (mostly an inside cat, she goes out with me on occasion to eat grass, but never unsupervised, and never for more than two minutes at a time). She eats Friskies dry and wet food. Today I got up and noticed right away she didn't come running and crying for her daily allotment of her wet food snack. I thought it was a little weird, but thought maybe she was just really sleepy. Two hours later, she finally comes out of the extra bedroom, crying. Again I brushed it off, because she likes to cry on occasion. Then I noticed she came out into the living room, and sat and stared at me, and cried, and her inner eyelids were showing. And cried more. I moved so she could come and get me if she wanted to, but she didn't. I had to go to her, and she cried a little more. I carried her into the kitchen and started getting her fancy snack ready (a small spoonful of the wet stuff), and was surprised when she didn't jump down as I spooned it into the bowl. I put the bowl down, and her, and she barely sniffed at it, and then walked away after me and cried. She's been crying all night. As far as I've noticed, she hasn't eaten or drank anything, or gone to the litter box. A little while later, she stopped crying and I thought, oh well, she went to sleep, she'll be fine now. Nope. After she came up the hallway crying again, she seemed to have trouble seeing where things are, she's being very careful where she walks, and is walking very slowly, like it hurts. She and I were on the couch, I was trying to get her to go to sleep and rest, and she did for a while, although she didn't put her head down on my arm like normal, or later when I put her on the bed (I don't know if that's important or not, but I'm trying to include everything.), but then she got up and walked onto the side table, and fell off. And then she cried until I rescued her. She's also getting her claws stuck in the carpet, and on the couch, and it seems to be taking a lot of effort for her to get them loose. After I put her in on the bed the first time, she slept for a while, and then the second time, I noticed a puddle on the floor. At first I thought it was either liquid throw up, or pee, but it didn't smell. (Later on, when I was cleaning it up, it did smell like pee, but that was over an hour later.)

I called the emergency vet in the nearest town, and they said I should bring her in, but unfortunately I can't afford their prices. Now I'm waiting until it's closer to business hours to call our regular vet to get her in today (if I can get hold of my dad and beg him to pay for Angel to go to the vet), but between then and now, I'm worrying and fretting nonstop, and I just want to know if there's anything I can do for her. And of course, internet searching her various symptoms doesn't help, it's making me worry even more, not to mention that my brother's cat died recently and so did a friend's cat (and we still don't know what caused either of their deaths.) And naturally, the vet tech from the emergency place I called asked if it could be poison, and so I'm worrying about that now too. I don't think it was poisoning, we keep our pills in cupboards she can't get into, and the same with cleaning products. We only have a few indoor plants, a tiny cactus, a spearmint plant, and a small pine tree-type thing. But we do have a variety basket of greenery that my dad's girlfriend brought over, and I don't know what's in that, but it doesn't look like it's been nibbled on. Angel is a very finicky cat, and she hates most green things, except grass (which she only eats in spring/summer), and doesn't touch people food most of the time (she makes an exception rarely for a single piece of shredded cheese, but only if it's very small). Also, her inner eyelids are still showing.

It's currently 3:37 AM, and I still have to wait until at least 7:30 -they don't open till 8, but I'm going to start calling then, since I'm sure someone will be there.

I only hope that Angel will be okay, and any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading this.

If you have questions, feel free to ask.

It sure sounds a little like poisoning, but it could be an intestinal obstruction, too.  Any chance she swallowed something?  A toy, a string, whatever?

I hope she'll be alright. See if you can work out a payment plan with whatever vet you bring her to.

Did you check over her body to see if there's anything going on that you can see, like something stuck in her paw or anything (just in case that could have anything to do with it). I'd get her checked out by a vet ASAP.

Thank you all for your replies. Sadly my little Angel is no longer with us. I had to make the choice to have her put down this morning. She ended up suffering from liver and kidney failure, being hypothermic, and extremely dehydrated, and having trouble breathing. The vet said that there was also the likelihood that she had something neurological wrong with her, but we couldn't be sure without more tests, and she didn't think that Angel would survive that long, or those tests. So I feel horrible for losing my baby, and glad that she isn't suffering anymore.

But thank you again for your replies.

I'm so, so sorry to hear that. At least she had someone in her life to love and care for her.

It takes time to heal from a loss...  and you always feel the love for the special animals who've been a part of your life.

I am so sorry you lost Angel. When you feel like it, you might want to post a tribute to her in our Crossing the Bridge Forum. I am going to lock this thread now.
