Has anyone tried to make their own homemade flea shampoo? I've heard mixed things, so I'm wondering if anyone has tried something that actually worked.

Thanks!

I really would not do this.  Making something that is both safe and effective isn't easy.  If you have a flea problem you can bath the cat using normal soap to remove the fleas on him or her, and you need to treat the house as well as flea eggs fall off into the environment and can stay there as eggs, larvae and pupae for months if not years.  As well as bathing your cat, you need to use a safe, effective spot-on while you deal with the house.

If your cat goes out you need to use a flea spot-on regularly, and if your cat has fleas I'd treat it for worms as well.

Lots of info here, it's a UK page so if you are not in the UK (you don't say where you are) brand names might differ, but it gives the correct names for the active ingredients so you can compare.  In the UK a good spray for the house is under £20 on the Internet.

when i took in the little kitten who was thrown away, i flea combed her all night long [practically!] i used some dawn dish soap diluted with water, and that worked.

i was and AM exceptionally diligent about vaccuming; moving furniture around, placing items in the sun [through windows - including cat toys, cat bed, furniture, et c], and laundering all items- bedding, throws, and clothing on  a regular basis.

i vaccumed twice a day for 2 weeks, which totally disrupts the flea life cycle = all stages. vaccum the furniture, and turn the vaccum upside down when finished to clean [i have a small vac and just squirt some hot soapy water around the bottom [unplug vac of course! lol]. wash wheels, et c.

no flea infestation after all of that, and i can vac every other / couple of days.

of course, she was on revolution at her first vet appointment, and this month will be her 3rd dose of revolution for kittens.

it can be done, and the reason i do things this way is because i'm on the autism spectrum and chemically sensitive.

no bug people are going to come in and spray my place.

oh! a steam cleaner [just hot water! maybe a little soap] will also kill fleas.
