I'm looking for advice from anyone with experience on the subject.  My 14 year old cat is going to have all his teeth removed. Should I syringe feed him hills a/d until his gums heal? And how long does it usually take for them to start eating again, because syringe feeding is hard to maintain with a job that requires me to work night shifts and overtime.

I suppose drinking nourishing fluids is OK?

Get hold of goat milk if possible. (raw or packed in).  Much safer than cow milk, and probably better nourishment too.  But you are entirely sure your cat is one of these who do manage cow milk, you can use it too, of course. Fully fatted, no light variant.

If you dont get hold of goat milk, you can use plain yoghurt.

You can put in raw egg yolk in for extra nourishment (if there are problems with salomonella on eggs in your country, you must be extra careful with pouring boiling water on the eggs).

You can melt in some butter too.

You can surely use kitten replacement mother milk...  As it is, or with yolk / butter in...

You can mix in some wet cat food, either with any above or with some extra water.

All these are also feasible for forcefeeding if necessary.

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

Exactly the reply I was looking for. Thanks for all the different feeding options, I needed an example of a good source of food to ensure he stays properly nourished until I get him chewing again.

My 6 year old cat had all her teeth behind the canines removed and was eating canned food the next day.  Water can be added to make it soupier and able to be lapped up.  I'd definitely ask the vet what they recommend for feeding.  They sent some extra high calorie canned food home with me.
