I feed my 5 months old persian kitten, kitten wet food from royal canin, also dry food special from the same brand specifically for persian kittens. Should i change the brand often?
A the moment he is 5 months old, and he is 2.8 kg. is that a healthy weight for my kitty?

You shouldn't need to change brands, but u could add other food to their diet to keep interesting such as chicken or fish. If u do change make sure food is for a long haired cat as it contains something that reduces hairballs which they still get even if you're grooming everyday and especially if you have a grumpy chinchilla like mine who has never 'allowed' grooming!!

The-ballpark-rule-of-thumb,is-1-lb-of-1-month,so-a-5-month-old-kitten-should-weigh,ballpark,5-lbs.But-a-larger-breed-kitten-would-weigh-more,and-it-depends-on-the-size-of-the-parents.Kittens-have-growth-spurts,one-day-they-look-fine,next-day,look-a-little-thin,and-they-grow-fast.So-you-have-to-constantly,adjust-the-amount-of-food,you-feed,and-each-kitten-is-an-individual.

Hi Katy. 2.8 kg is a normal weight for your kitten. I'm not a fan of Royal Canin either. I don't like their marketing at all. They use cheap ingredients that aren't good for cats ( corn and rice, poultry meal, etc.) add a few vitamins and put it in a bag designed to look scientific and charge a high price so people will think it's special. Ugh! Anyway, wet food is healthier than dry due to the higher percentage of meat and moisture. You can change the flavors/brands of wet as often as you like. I feed lots of different ones in rotation without any stomach upset. If you feed dry you should stick with the same brand, or transition slowly to a new one by adding a little at a time to the original food. Do this for about a week before being completely on new dry to avoid stomach issues.

Even if you don't shop there, petfoodirect.com is a great website because you can read the ingredients of tons of different foods and compare them. You want to see more meat and less fillers like rice, corn and by-products. By-products aren't bad for a cat (they eat them in nature) but more meat is better than scraps. Some wet brands I like and feed are: Evo, Nature's Variety, Wellness, Merrick, Innova, Blue Wilderness, By Nature %95, Natural Balance, Verus, Tiki cat, Halo, Fancy Feast (only the classics) , and Go! brand. None are perfect so I rotate these and a few others. If you are going to feed dry too,(even better to skip dry if you can) I would go with Evo chicken and turkey or Nature's Variety. Epigen 90 is the best (high protein/low carb) dry but it's super pricey!

Do you have any pics of your kitten? We would love to see him!

It's about the shape, it's easier for the flat faced Persians to pick up.  Likewise the Maine Coon formula is larger, for their larger mouths.

His weight sounds fine, what foods you have available will depend on where you live. Most here will just assume you're in the US and have all their brands available which isn't the case for those of us in other countries.

Once again that depends on where you live. And given the OP used kg's I'm guessing they're not in the US.

BTW there are lots of converters around you just need to google.

The weight of your kitten is about right. You can change your kitten's wet diet around if you want to with different brands. Since you are feeding Royal Canin you shouldn't have any problems finding another premium food to switch the wet diet out with. All of mine usually get Nutro Max Cat and Nutro Natural Choice wet foods but I buy a lot of other premium wet foods to give them different flavors and textures. I don't know where you are located so I don't know what premiums you might have available.

As for the dry food - It is best to slowly transition the dry food slowly, over the course of a least a week, preferably 2 weeks. But the wet can be mixed and matched at any time.

Thanks all for your comments and for the information.

Of course, here I put two pictures of my kitten :)

By the way, I live in Dubai, so I have to check some pet shops for kitty food brands that you mentioned. Hopefully I can find most of them here :)

I took Max for a check up a few days ago. he is now 6.5 months old, 4.5 kg! and he is not fat at all. Dr. told me he is a big boy, probably double the size of other cats! Sometimes I see him a fluffy lovely  teddy bear  :)
