So my cat got out and was missing for 6 days. When he came back to us he was dehydrated and had an unpleasant looking wound on his thigh. I took him to the pet urgent care for a saline shot and antibiotics and the next morning i took him in to get it all stitched up.

The issue is he wont really sit still, im afraid the skin here in his dry weather will dry up and crack. Do you think it is safe to put Petroleum Jelly -around- (not in) the wound. Ive heard stories that it isnt harmful for short amounts of consumption but im not too sure.

Think any of you could help me out?

Oh jeepers, if any one of my sixteen cats went missing for 6 days I think I would turn into a nervous mess! I can't tell you if vaseline is good or not though I never used it. I only use a home made recipe for cat wounds that i brew weekly for three hours to treat their cuts and bruises, it works great though! Speaking of great It makes me happy that you found your cat, I was biting my nails just reading the first sentence of your paragraph! Well, back to vacuuming I've got a few more passes over my rug to clean up all the fur = )

satisfactory wishes,
Harold

If I want to experiment, olive oil should be safer.  A classical remedicum for different lighter scratches and healing scars, either in combination with other ingredients, or as it is.

Best to use olive oil of really good quality.

Good luck!

Putting anything on it might encourage him to lick it too much.  What aftercare instructions were you given?  If you didn't get any or are unsure, ring the vets and check with them.

Cat wounds usually heal up very well if the cat is on antibiotics as your is.  Do make sure to finish the course.
