Hello fellow feline friends!

I am a foster for a local animal shelter and have had  quite a few mother cats give birth at my house. A few weeks ago a beautiful female  calico arrived on my my porch looking slightly pregnant. After a few days of watching her endure the cold weather and her faithfulness to my porch I took her in. She has been growing steadily bigger on the sides, and looks pretty pregnant to me , but has absolutely no signs of nipple changes. Shes been with us for four weeks nos and looked slightly enlarged on the sides when we got her. It seems as though if she were pregnant, by now she would be showing some signs of milk. Her nipples are about the size of a zit! (and almost white)

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

There are some girls who's nipples don't change, right up until they bag up.  But a vet visit will tell you if she's pregnant or not, she'll need to be wormed as well and if not pregnant an examination into why her stomach is so round.

Our resident cat Didi never showed any changes in her nipples. I kept checking but nothing. Even on the morning of the kittens birth! I remember checking her when I gave her a piece of chicken that morning and thought "Oh well, still got a long way to go". That afternoon 3 healthy babies popped out of her.

Thank you both for your replies!. Sorry I didnt reply sooner missymotus.., its very helpful to know that she could still be ready soon. The reason Im hoping its soon is Im hoping there arent too many. Shes getting pretty big and if shes still got a few weeks to go, that probably means theres more than 3 or 4 there. My first foster cat delivered 8! One died. When I got her, I thought, wow shes pretty big she must be going to deliver soon, but she went on for another 3 weeks!

I will have to handle all the spay neuter and adopting on my own since she didnt come through my rescue group she just arrived on my porch. My rescue is winding down as the director is getting up there in age and needs some normalcy in life, so when I asked her about this mamma she said no.  :(  So I'll be responsible for finding them homes on my own and being sure they get fixed and vaccinated. I sure hope she doesnt have 8! I dont feel them moving yet, but she definitely has the pouch on both sides.

I just took my dog to the vet yesterday when I found her unable to walk,
(shes only six years old) that was 700.00 so I wont be taking this kitty to the vet unless theres a real need. ) She will be spayed when shes finished though) Vet bills have been taking over my life lately, just had a cat (Koopa)  with mycoplasma requiring blood transufusions, (2) and he died anyway.  L(  He was my 16 year old daughters baby.  :(

Sorry for venting. This catsite is great because you know you are around people who understand. I'll let you know  when our mamma pops. WHe call her Bunny because when we found her she hopped away like a bunny. (Of course she came right back!) Maybe soon we'll have the baby bunnies! Haha!

Sorry to hear about your dog and Koopa.

Is there another rescue you can turn to? Or a tnr type organisation that may help vet the kittens and mum. You could also approach your vet if you have a good relationship about a lower rate for a stray.

Hoping for a small litter for you.

Thank you! My vet is not helpful despite the fact that when I was a foster for a previous organization, I probably brought her about 100 kittens altogether in my 6 years of fostering.I will go to the local animal shelter for low cost spay and hopefully have adopting families pay me back for spays/neuters. The good thing is they will arrive well before the usual onslaught of kittens in the spring, so there wont be alot of competition out there! Thanks for your helpfulness and well wishes!
