It's been a week since I had 3 of 4 of my foster kittens "crash". Thankfully, all survived.

So, they have been doing really well, but just cannot get them to gain weight. Most likely reason is the diarrhea they've had since last Thursday. At first I wondered if it was whatever virus that caused their collapse. However, several days later and after trying pumpkin and a few other tricks, the one kitten had white/grey liquid. :/

I had a bugger of a time getting a sample that wasn't coated with litter.

Anyways....coccidia :(

The vet put them on Baycox which I have never used. Well, the kittens freaked when I dosed them. Frothing at the mouth +++ So, it tastes horrible. Thankfully, it's just once a day for 3 days but does anyone have any tips to make it more palatable?

They were quite distraught and not very impressed with me...

Poor babies!!! Hopefully they will feel better soon. You could try putting it in pill pockets and see if it hides it enough, might work?

Ask your vet before you do it but I know mine will let me put meds in vanilla ice cream or plain yogurt...im not so sure the ice cream idea is good for diarrhea though..good luck! another tip ive heard is try giving them white rice.

Thank you :) The pill pockets are too big for these wee ones. They have been hovering between 11 and 14oz. Thankfully...this med is working and their stools have firmed up. :);):)

I guess I'm worried to about hiding it in say yogurt and then them spitting most out .... not knowing how much med went in. Thankfully, it's day three of three and the deed is done!

Sasha was the one I was most worried about and he is up to 13oz tonight.

I tried them on some chicken and rice. Sasha loved it! I really hope this is the end of their struggles.

Just take a small bit of pill pocket, flatten it, and shape it around the pill. It will hide the bitterness-then open up their mouths and pop it down the hatch. If you let them chew the pill, they are going to keep frothing. Good luck,

Sorry, I guess I should have clarified that it's a liquid. I did more research online and apparently it's an irritant to the mucous membranes.

Apparently, this med can kill cocci in just one dose. They called it a "cure" for cocci.

I don't think it's available in the States yet. I'm in Ontario.

They recommend giving it to kittens at 3-4 weeks to prevent coccidia.

You can put liquid in a pill pocket and kinda just pinch it to "seal" it which is why I suggested it. I figured they were on a small dose and it might take a few pockets. But I am glad they are all done with it, good thing it was only for a few days.

Hmm. I am in Ontario as well. Liquid can be a nightmare to give for some cats-I always try to get a pill. hope the kitties are fine!
