I'm sure it varies a lot but has anybody gotten an MRI for their cats before? My Mabel most likely has a polyp in her nasal passages, the x-rays were inconclusive because it's all soft tissue. My vet said an MRI could help pinpoint this issue so I'm shopping around for one. I'm in NYC so I'm sure it's more expensive that elsewhere, but I would like to know what price to expect.

The ballpark estimates I've gotten so far:

$500-$2500

$2000-$3000

$1200 (this was how much a friend of mine paid for her cat who had a similar issue)

As it stands I'll probably go with my friend's vet, but just for argument's sake, has anyone else done an MRI? How much did it cost and did it lead to a satisfactory outcome?

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
We've had 2 MRIs done on our cats over the years. They cost $1,600. They weren't looking for polyps - in fact, it was so long ago, I don't remember what they were actually looking for. Whatever it was, it was negative. I guess you can sometimes buy peace of mind though.... at least that's how we justified it. :lol3:

An ultrasound won't find a polyp in a nasal passage? :dk:

My wife has nasal polyps and when originally diagnosed she had to have a CT scan, something along the lines of an ultrasound (or xrays) would not distinguish between polyps and cartilage/skin. Perhaps it is the same for cats?
