What do you do when your cats keep you up?

Okay so maybe I love my cats too much, but when my cats want to play at 3 am I get up and play with them and spend time with them. My husband thinks I'm crazy! LOL. But usually by 4:30 am they are back to sleep and I can't get back to bed. So I usually just stay up while they cuddle up to me on the couch? Does anyone else do this? Or am I just a dork?

I get up at 3 ish.  Beeba and I share a cup of coffee on the couch in the dark. I drink it, he rubs his head on the warm cup (its covered).

Then he falls asleep on my legs.

It was cute the first couple of nights but it gets to tiring, my two still act like kittens so I cant have them sharing the room with me so they now have a bed time and they are in the bathroom all night, I can tell when they have been wrestling though because they knock over the water and theres clumps of fur all over, but are always cuddled up when I go in.  I check on them through the night if I wake up

I think it was easy for me to ignore them at nights since I am hearing impaired.. their noises and meows would not wake me up! And I tend to be a deep sleeper, so their movements does nothing for me either.

They generally sleep with me all night..and as far as i know, always touching me and never leaving the bed. and when it's time to wake up, then they bother me.

Over the river and through the woods...
I"m in the minority here. We just close the door and don't let them in (except for LittleOne, because she doesn't bother us at night).  The rest have free run of the house during the night. If I hear something crash, I just close my eyes and cringe. Most of my "good" nicknacks are in the china cabinet...if I hear THAT crashing to the floor, we WILL have cat soup!

There is no way that I would get up at 3 to play or otherwise pay attention to the cats. No way. We've been going through this now for many years with our two Old Ladies (both of them going to be 19 this summer) awakening us around 3:30, simply because they want breakfast and it lost its cuteness a long time ago. At this point, as soon as they start meowing, I get up and throw everybody but Mollipop and Tabby out of the bedroom....and the only reason I don't throw those two out with the others is because, for the most part, they'll go back to sleep.

I work full time and, believe me, there are mornings when I'm ready to do battle with Whisper and Bootser....they will not shut up. Then they get Ms. Pepe meowing, too. And even though BooBoo is deaf, he knows when we've awakened and then he starts in.

And did I mention that this all takes place, starting around 3:30 or so?

No, it's not cute at all. I'm really tired of it all......being sleep deprived for years is not a good thing.

I had to laugh at these stories now! Hahaha! It's sooo cute that you'd wake up so early to play with them. I love it. Lol!

I'm usually the one who wakes up early (roundabout 04:30) because Rasberry would play with some bell or box or paperbag. My fiancee sleeps through EVERYTHING. And she knows as soon as I'm up she gets food, so ya, she plays THOROUGHLY. Hahaha! I don't mind though, I'm a morning person so it's not that bad for me. :)

I would be shutting the door if mine were playing at that time.

Mine are all trained young to sleep through the night, litters from 7-8 weeks can sleep through even being a highly active breed they are taught the routine.

No pestering for food either, even when we sleep late on weekends the cats just wait until we are ready - as taught from a young age

Holly will do that.  She comes into the room at about 4am wanting food, attention etc, etc.

I'm mean.  We take her out of the bedroom and shut the door.  Of course if either of kids' doors are open she goes in there and bothers them

The cute thing she does- is she'll take toys and drop them outside the door.  I guess she thinks maybe if she drops a toy outside the door someone will feed/play with/ pay attention to her?

When we had other kittys, at least she had someone else to bother/ get attention from.

Our guys actually learned pretty quick not to wake us up...I'm not a morning person and when Freya was a kitten, she used to come in and be a pain until one of us got up. According to my husband (I honestly don't remember it) one day she came in and scratched at the matress (something she knew better than to do) and I promptly dumped the entire glass of water from my bedside on her head, then went back to sleep. Since then she's come to bed quietly, and whaps the others if they're boisterous in our room at night. They'll actually tear through the house at night (as cats do) and skid to a halt at the doorway to our bedroom before entering reeeeally quietly.

It's hilarious to watch!
