my cat,a mature neutered male, likes to get up on the desk and chew the corners of all the papers he can get at. Is there anything I can do to stop this other than locking things up? He will also eat styrofoam or fiberglass ceiling tiles if left where he can get at it.

My mature tabby does the same thing. Some cats have an oral fixation and there's not a heck of a lot you can do about it.

Is your cat declawed? Mine is, and I think it may have something to do with it. Also, how much time do you play/pet him each day? He may be trying to get your attention too...

My female cat will chew cardboard boxes. We found out the when we had to move. She isn't declawed. She just has a fixation to chew the things so we keep them out of her reach in the storeroom.

My male cat Russell tends to headrub them. Thankfully, he doesn't chew them.

There's no place like home
A few of mine like to chew the edges of books, magazines or papers that I'm holding. It appears mine are doing it to get my attention, as they stop when I stop reading and start petting them. 2 of my girls go after and chew the plastic bags from stores (I take them away from them pretty quick) - I think it's an oral thing with them.

Yes he is declawed. We also have a small dog who is an attention hog, so the cat does not get the quality time with us that he would like.

Sounds like you might need to pay a little closer attention and make extra effort to give the kitty some needed love
