Is my feral kitten a male or female?

I caught this kitten from a local dairy farm which has a huge colony of ferals.  She (I'm assuming it's a she, but it's so hard for me to tell) big my finger right through the glove upon capture, but has been settling down lately.  Anyways, I would like to have her spayed as soon as possible, probably in the next month and a half or so, but I was just curious to know if it would be a spay or neuter process.

I suppose I don't really need to know, but it helps with the name process.  :p  I've been calling her Clara, but maybe Clarence would be more fitting.

Here is the little cutie:

And her (or his) behind:  (sorry about the crappy quality, she moves a lot)  If need be I'll get my boyfriend to help hold her while I violate her more with the camera.

Although it looks like a girl at first glance, sometimes, it takes a while for the testicles to "drop".

How old is the kitten?

I have had two fosters lately turn from boys to girls magically. :)

I had a call to pick up a beautiful orange female and when I got "her" home... bam.. a boy.

I'm sure a vet can give you a def answer.

Thanks guys!  If I had to guess I would say she's about 7 weeks.  I know it's a little early for her to be taken away but I figured a life free of fleas and parasites was better than staying with momma a couple weeks longer.

About what age do the testes drop?  I tried to feel around the area for them but either I'm doing it wrong or there's nothing there.  Oh I hope it's a she!  I've only ever had girl cats, and I love 'em.  My last female was a DLH calico and she lived to be 18.  She was my BFF.  :)

Haha!  This happened to my brother and his cat.  He had named her 'Lola' and would even sing her the song "La-la-la-la-lola...walked like a woman but talked like a man." and when he picked 'her' up after the surgery discovered 'she' was a he.  His name is now Louis.

Yeah, on some cats the identification is quite easy even as kittens, on some it may be difficult. I have known and heard both breeders and vets be mistaken.

And all the stories of the family´s little friendly tom, who got a little round on the belly - lotsa good food did he got, yeah.  One day he disappears, but comes forward several days later with two precious small kittens drinking her milk for full!   :)

My bet is that's a boy, although the photo isn't clear enough to be certain.

Wow, I can't really tell. I have one girl who looks like a boy, even now that she's grown (a neutered boy, of course!). Now, it does look like s/he has some orange spots? Or is that my imagination? If so, probably a girl; torties are rarely boys. Although anything is possible! :lol3:

Well I looked at her again today, and maybe she has grown a bit since these pictures were taken, because it seems to me that she is very clearly a female.  (Hope so!)  I always second guess myself though.

2 weeks after the capture and she is the sweetest thing!  She plays like no tomorrow and will even take cat naps with me on the couch.

I thought I might be seeing this too.  If he/she is tri-colored (if there is some orange mixed in with that gray and white) then there is a 99% chance of female.  I know you have had great experiences with girl cats, but I just had to interject that boy kitties are great too....total lovebugs.  I have two of each and love them all.

I know I shouldn't be so picky!  :)  I'd love him/her either way.  I've always heard that girl kitties are more independent while boy kitties are more lovable.  Is this true?  One of my girls was a lover while the other one was snobbish, but she's coming around with age.  So far this baby adores me, I hope it stays that way.

She does have 2 veeeery light orange streaks above her eyes, so perhaps she is female then.  I never knew that!  I thought that only applied to patchy calicos.  Cool.
