We had to rehome one of our kittens due to my husband being highly allergic and now I am in trouble.

Appears now with our remaining little guy Mittens is giving me severe eye issues. I wake up at night with horrible pain in my right eye so bad I have to put cold clothes on it.Had this years ago with two Papillons and had to rehome them it got so bad.Was told I have scarring under my eyelids back then. Allergy tests tell me I am not that allergic to anything but the eye specialist told me eye allergies are different .

I will try anything to keep him as I love him so much. I tried with the dogs for one miserable year before I had to give them up. I cant take too many allergy meds as they make me nervous and cranky.

I read somewhere long ago that if you put something in the cats water it will help people with the allergies. I am thinking it is apple cider vinegar just a tiny drop. Has anyone tried this or heard of it?

I have read the other posts on what to do for allergies and I am trying those as well.

I will try anything,do anything to get this allergy issue fixed. It will break my heart to give my little guy up.

Wiping the cats down daily with a clean damp (not wet) cloth daily helps in many cases, I'm told.

Yep, wipe him daily with a damp cloth, some people say using distilled water to wet the cloth is more helpful than tap water, idk. Also, wash your eyelids/eyelashes/eyebrows (just close your eyes and wash, basically) with baby shampoo once or twice a day. . .this really gets rid of the built-up allergens and helps a lot of people.

wow baby shampoo? I never would have thought of that. I was wiping him down with regular water but have got some distilled water and started to use that.We have a hepa filter going in the living room now as well. My hubby is also suffering with red eyes and runny nose.

Thanks for the advice.

Oddly enough, this is the advice my wife got last year when she had an eye irritation, too.  I wonder if this is a reflection of some new research, or what?

You mean washing the eyes with baby shampoo? LOL, I thought it was the sort of common-sense thing Grandma told you to do, but if doctors are saying it maybe they did do some kind of study.

I assume they say to use baby shampoo because it won't sting if it gets in your eyes and is gentle on the skin. Probably any soap would work just as well, might not be as gentle though.
