Hi, I went through the Forums on this same subject but didn't really come close to having my question answered, we found this adorable kitten running for its life in a back alley over this past summer, it couldn't have been more than just off mothers milk, plus it appears to be a runt, which might serve it well with the problems the poor girl has, she is blind atleast in one eye, deaf, she only responds to vibrations and LOUD very loud sounds or loud close up sounds, her tail looks to be better now but is definitely broken in more than one place, when I called two local Vets they sounded as if the cat would be better off to be put down, well, she is hilarious, loving and a ball of energy, even with the above said problems (in heat now and I am worried about taking her to get fixed but must) Her front left leg is bent, almost like twice, once at elbow and again at what would be the bend below the elbow, she has like 2-3 claws on it and a pad or two, nothing fully developed about it, I have had cats my whole life (over 30 years) and one lived to be over 20 in human years, but throughout the years I have never came across such a limited ability kitten,, we aptly named Lucky, she is my profile picture. I can upload better, more close up pics if anyone thinks they can help, I greatly appreciate it, ~Amy

What's the question you needed answered?

Good on you for taking the poor kitty in! I'm sure she appreciates it. If her tail is paralyzed and droopy she may be more comfortable having it amputated, but if she uses it for balance at all, it's better she keep it even if it is broken. I'd be working closely with a vet to see what can be done to make her more comfortable. If your vet doesn't want to help and just wants to put her down, look for another vet who will be more helpful

Welcome to TCS!

Poor kitty!  She looks so cute laid out like that in your avatar pic.
If you have a question about her health we have a section here just for that. ( http://www.thecatsite.com/f/4/cat-health)  Or ask here and we'll do what we can to get it in front of the eyes with the most knowledge!

You can message any of or team members with site questions too.  The Mentors can usually be found hanging around The New Cats on the Block forum. http://www.thecatsite.com/f/20/new-cats-on-the-block

I hope we are able to answer your questions!

My advice would also be to find another vet with more compassion.

Have her eyes looked at to see if surgery can restore any of her vision. Have her leg and tail x-ray'd to better see what is going on; sometimes limbs can be re-broken and set in the right place. And have her ears looked at as well, they may just be dirty and infected.

And bless you for taking her in. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

my youngest cat was born with only part of his back leg, or so we were told, i thought he may get on ok with it as it was, but by the time we had him a few months it was obvious it was becoming more of a hinderance to him.

today we got him back from the vets having had the whole limb removed, he is obviously a bit sore at the minute, but im sure he will be better off now its totally gone.

can your kitty use the front leg ok?

Why on Earth would she need to be euthanized if she is seemingly happy and living a "normal" life?!? Sometimes I just don't get vets... One of my mom's cats has a deformed front leg and it doesn't slow her down on bit. As long as she is happy, active, etc. I don't see why she would need to euthanized. Be prepared though that she MAY have further problems on the INSIDE where she isn't fully developed on the outside, so you never know what kind of health trouble you may run unto down the line. I would deal with that if/when the time comes though.

I also see absolutely no reason to euthanase her, but it sounds like she does need vetinary care - her specific problems need looking at, she needs a through check, she needs worming, she needs checking for fleas.
