When Mac left us last week I started spoiling Mia because I knew she missed him as much as I did. Three days in a row I gave her 1/2 can of Friskies canned food each morning as well as she had dry to munch on during the day. After that I planned on giving it to her as a treat occasionally as I did when it was she and Mac. Well she knew where it was and walked around there back and forth meowing, waiting for me to get her wet food. So I gave in. lol  :)  She will be getting wet every morning (1/2 of a 5.5 ounce can) then dry to graze on. I wish there were some different foods I could buy that were close in price and size. Canned Friskies is only 46 cents each at the Walmart nearest me (20 miles one way). Is there anything you all might know of that I can get at Pet Supplies Plus or Petco. I go to the city once a month to get  regular supplies for that month. Thanks for any ideas.

What are looking for...grain free, or what?  Not sure what is out there at that price level.  Depends, too, on where you live.  But I think even Petco's brand, which is Soulistic (which IS grain free), is at least $1/can for the 5.5 oz, at least in my area, or it was last time I bought it (several months ago)

What were you doing before...just feeding dry?  Because if that's the case, I wouldn't feel bad about giving the Friskies.  IMHO, feeding canned is better than feeding kibble, unless the kibble you're feeding is something like Wysong Epigen, which is practically carb free.

I kinda thought this might be the cheapest price I can find for a decent food.

I have always fed dry. Its what financialy I can afford. Sence Mac is now gone, I will continue to feed Mia the Purina One Sensytive symptoms Dry until its gone (sence I'm doing both wet and dry it will probably take 2 months at least to use it up). It is in a pet safe container made for cat/dog food .I'm on SSDI so I have to really watch my money. When I am through with the Purina One I will look at other foods. She cant have grain free dry though. She has gotten sick on several kinds.  :(

Friskies Paté is probably the best in your price range. Stick with the paté flavors, and some of the flavors are better than others. Poultry Platter is probably THE best, Mixed Grill and Turkey and Giblets are second. I'll look at a few other flavors and let you know. Try to avoid the fishy flavors; the non-fish flavors still have some fish so you don't want to overdo it.

If Petsmart isn't out of your way, their store brand Grreat Choice is basically the same as Friskies, and is even cheaper. It's not worth going out of your way for (only a few cents a can) but if you're going anyway you might as well pick some up.

Rival and Special Kitty are bottom-of-the-barrel dry foods, definitely a few steps DOWN from Purina ONE. Rival wet would also be a step down from Friskies or Grreat Choice.

Thanks Willowy. The pate' is what she has been eating.  :)  She hates the fish flavors so thats not a problem. lol  I got some today as my Mom and I went to Walmart together. The only ones I could find were Poultry Platter,Country Style Dinner and Turkeyand Giblets so I went ahead and got 15 cans of food which will last me through the 1st week of February. I didnt see any Mixed grill. I will check next time I go. Thanks alot!  :)

As far as inexpensive but good quality grain inclusive dry foods,

I'd recommend 4Health (at Tractor Supply) or Evolve (Wal-Mart or PetFoodDirect.)

Both nave NO corn, wheat or soy, which are common cat allergens,

and both corn and soy are almost certainly (over 90% of each are) Genetically Modified

and are either sprayed directly with pesticides or have pesticide genes in their DNA.

Note:  The Evolve smells MUCH better than the 4Health.

I agree with Willowy on the Friskies - I feed the Poultry Platter to my ferals, and they are doing great and have soft coats.
