Do you guys know anything about the Whole Foods cat food (canned)? Is it any good? And are they transparent about their typical nutrient analysis?

Just curious about your thoughts before I make the trek over there.

(Edited to clarify that I'm just interested in canned food.)

Well, I cannot even pull up a list of their ingredients, no matter how I search the internet.  I even had a heck of a time even finding this product within Whole Foods website!  Plus only was able to find one review, which WAS favorable.

I, personally, have no experience, and had never even heard of it before you posted your questions.  Have you been able to find a list of ingredients?  It just seems odd that there isn't much about this food out there.  But I did see in my search that there is only one "flavor" that is grain free.

No, it's Whole Foods' store brand.

The canned food looks OK, my main thought about it was that it was too expensive, LOL. The dry food looks terrible and frankly I'm surprised Whole Foods would sell it.

One suggestion---look in the freezer section. They have a frozen food (sort of raw, but is heat pasteurized) that most cats really seem to like.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone!

I didn't know about it either! The family that just adopted my foster told me about it and said it was $.99 a can (I presume 5.5 or 6 oz), which seemed decent in terms of price to me. I can actually drive right by Whole Foods tomorrow, so if I remember to stop in, I will do so and let you know what I discover.

I remember reading the ingredients on the back of the can a while ago and it seemed average. Nothing special.

It has grains in it. It was also expensive - at least here. I remember wondering why anyone would pay so much for a "nothing special" food with grain. :lol3:

I actually just got back from Wholefoods and took a look. The first couple ingredients are different by-products, white rice and un-specified fish. I think you could find a can of those ingredients cheaper.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I did swing by the Whole Foods on my way home yesterday. It was on sale for $.70 a can. You are all correct - nothing special. Fish, grain, and there was some "chicken" in Chicken & Rice, but most of the meat products were "by-product meal." Eh, I can get Authority from Petsmart, it's only $.80 on sale, no by-product meal, and though it has grains, most have less than 10% of calories from carbs.

I just adopted 2 adult cats and have been reading about it online. My husband actually works at WF, so we got everything from there (we get the employee discount!) and here is the 411 on the 365 brand stuff: the canned food is $0.79 or $0.69 depending on the flavor, but yes, the first ingredients are by-products (you would figure that WF would be the LAST place to sell that, right?), and they didn't seem to care much for it. They seem to eat the dry food ok, and I've been meaning to check the ingredient list, but forgot. The litter makes a LOT of dust. After doing my homework, I have decided to switch to the Trader Joe's canned food (no by-products and all natural), their dry food, though, has a lot of grains, so I'm still looking for something better with a good price. And finally the litter, I 'll be switching to the pine litter and bought the Trader Joe's brand, let's see if it's any better, I'll keep you posted.

Please find out the ingredients for the 365 dry cat food!!! We were in the flood here in Boulder. My husband grabbed the 365 dry during the emergency, having never fed Tohnee this food before; his eye cleared of discharge and his shedding has stopped. Now Whole Foods discontinued and Whole Paws, new vendor at WF, has brought back his problems. I've written WF for the ingredients list of the 365 OR the name of the 365 vendor and they will not answer. Please help with this if you can! Thanks

I have a nearly 2 year old cat that I have had nothing but feeding problems with.  He throws almost everything up no matter if it is junk or premium cat food.  I will say this for Whole Paws, he eats it and it stays down, his coat is shinier and sleeker than I have ever seen it and he likes it.  He eats the DRY food and it does not look any different than many other brands but i  am telling you that I thank goodness for the food.  It meets the requirements of good nutrition for cats and it has real meat as the first ingredient not meal or by products.

I have not used the canned variety of it as my cat does not eat canned food by choice.  Does not like it and won't even put it in his mouth.

I have had him on Royal Canin, Blue Buffalo, Hill's Science Diet, Orijen, Wellness, and many others and they all ended up being thrown up.  Whole Paws has been my solution and so I wanted to put my 2 cents worth in.
