We've had a stray cat coming to our house to eat off and on for over a year. He's a tuxedo cat who is already fixed. The vet guesses about 2 or 3 years old. To make a long story short, he's sorta a neighborhood cat with no home to call his own. He's always so thin but a very beautiful cat! I also have 4 outside cats who live in their own cat house just steps from our back porch and 3 Ragdoll cats inside. Our big Ginger Cat, male also fixed does not like him & won't let him stay. The tuxedo cat who we call Oreo does not have any fight or stand his grown in him!( all my cats are fixed, inside & outside)  So Mango, who was once a stray himself, runs him off! He'll come back days later, sometimes sooner sometimes weeks later, and want to eat so I let him in the garage to eat. Well last summer I did try to make him a house cat but he peed on everything. Cat beds, dog beds. We have a 12lb Yorkie also. I'm sure he was marking his territory. He does know how to use a litter box but he will pee on blankets and inside of crates. Any suggestions on how to stop him from peeing on things if I

can make him an inside cat?
 Thank you so much!!

The standard advice for peeing cats, is to begin with a small room, with litter etc in. Also some cat igloo where he can "hide", and a scratching post.

If he behaves, you can proceed with next room too. And preferably a litter there too. Etc, etc. Better too many litter than to few.

You said the litter is no real problem, he know how to use. But it is better to safeguard...

Lay plastic sheets over the beds and so.  Not nice to pee on plastic sheets, it is splashing and they dont like this.

How is it, the smell of his enemy is pehaps in the house? Fastens mostly in the fabric of course...

Wash all fabric off  Set up  also Feliway diffuser in the room where he is...

Some ideas for brainstorming!

Good luck!

Thank you. I will try the plastic sheets. He lived in the spare room for over a month by himself and did just fine. As soon as I let him in the rest of the house, he peed on the dog/ cat beds laying on the floor. Almost immediately & inside one of the dog carriers. Our Yorkie is a neutered male, I was wondering if he smelled that he was a male like himself. I really have no idea. But when we also crack open a window with the screens in tack of course, he will push out the screen to get out. Very strong kitty. I have 3 ragdoll cats that can not ever go outside so it's really becoming difficult. He is such a sweet kitty though. I think he's just been through so much trama living outside on his own he will have a harder time adjusting.

definitely try feliway. i have not used it for pee problems, only to try to keep a trapped feral calm or when socializing a feral, but it seems as though lots of people have had good luck with it for pee issues.

Get a scat mat. I bought one to keep the cats off my work station and kitchen counters. It works. It doesn't hurt them

and I only had to put it there once. Cats are smart they learn quick. They are expensive. The cheapest I found one

was on ebay but worth the money. Check amazon for the reviews there are hundreds.

Have you taken him to a Vet to get checked?  Sometimes the peeing can be a sign of medical issues.  He may be stressed out by the other pets you have.  If this is the case, Feliway is great stuff.  I too used it when socializing my feral kittens, also helps getting them into the carrier.  Is he neutered?  Can also play a role in him peeing around if he isn't.  Hope this helps, he looks very cute & a nice addition to your family.

Yes, I have taken him to the vet for shots and for a check up. He is also fixed. I'm thinking the peeing is just a way of marking his territory. My cats inside are female but my Yorkie is male but all are fixed. I will check into the scat mat. Yes, also have used the felliway every where in the house. He's a sweet cat but the peeing is a pain.

oreo is so cute!! he reminds me of the stray that i am going to take to the vet in a few days.

i hope he's peeing/spraying less! i read somewhere to tape aluminum foil up on the places where they pee [repeatedly], and to use vinegar.

here is a photo of chopper, the stray at my address:
