Today's question is kind of strange, but it was something we were talking about at work last week. Are there any everyday tasks that you have trouble with simply because you can't wrap your mind around it?

For example, a girl I went to school with had a hard time telling time on an ordinary clock (the kind with hour hand and minute hand). She was a straight A student and on the honor roll, but she had a mind block when it came to which one was the minute hand and which one was the hour hand. She kept thinking that minutes are shorter than hours so the short one should be the minute hand. And we grew up with those kind of clocks..not digital!

Me, I have a hard time telling my right from my left. When I give directions to someone, I actually have to act it out to get it right. I'm mainly right handed but I do somethings better with my left hand so maybe that is where the confusion comes in. I don't know.

How about you? Is there anything you have a mind block about?

My mom has this really nice clock (I think it's called an atomic clock).  It has the phases of the moon on it.  When there is a full moon, the moon on the clock is a black circle.  It seems to me, it should be the other way around.  I also have trouble with the TV remote, because it changes the channels in the opposite direct that I think they should go.  Maybe that comes with being left-handed, somehow...

I sometimes have trouble with the left vs. right thing, as well. I'm a righty, who leans toward using the left hand for most things, so I think that's my problem!
I'm just now, at my age, mastering using a can opener right-handed. I never could--and I still want to do it lefty-style.

For the right and left issue:

If you spread your fingers, the thumb and index finger makes an "L" shape on the left hand. Homemade GPS.

My mom had trouble with the right and left thing too.  She would always mimic writing (she was right handed) when she had to tell someone right or left. I have problems with directions - which is why I like to actually drive a route (with someone to show me the way) before I actually have to go there.  I always seem to want to turn in the opposite direction for some reason.

I can never remember which months have 30 days and which have 31. I always have to go over that poem in my head. Duh. :D
