Expanding on my thread earlier today to obtain a syringe feeder and keep it on hand just in case, I wondered if there are other items that it would be good to keep on hand. Can some of the other members name items it would be good to have just in case of emergency? I'll start the list off with the syringe feeder and a few common sense items:

Syringe feeder

Vet contact info

ER vet contact info

Contact info should be in a form such that anyone can access the information (printed out, not stored solely on your iPhone contact list) as you might not be the one using it.

Just in case of natural disaster:

Cat food (raw feeders, especially--in event of power outage, the food will only stay safe a day or two)

Any meds

I think colloidal silver would be a good thing to have on hand for wounds.

A cat carrier for every cat you have is a must, in case of evacuation.

Thanks, LDG! I had tried a search on those exact, same words, but was unsuccessful.

Flint, can cats be trained to load even if they don't like the carrier? My kitty is a big homebody and when she goes out, she only goes to the vet. She hates it and associates the carrier with the vet.

Absolutly!

Be-very-glad-to-teach-you-how.The-reason-most-kitties-don't-like-the-carrier,is-because-they-for-the-most-part,they-only-go-to-the-vets,so-they-think-of-the-carrier,as-a-baddy-place,lol.

Since-we-travel-so-often,and-so-far,they-are-taught-as-8-week-kittens,that-carriers-is-goody-places.

First-you-need-a-good-size-carrier,one-that-is-hard-sided-and-sturdy,one-they-can-comfortabley,stand-up-in,turn-around,lie-down,and-stretch-out-in.

Since-the-kittens-travel-in-the-same-carrier,mine-is-a-Petmate,Vari-Kennel,its-rated-for-a-30lb-dog.It-has-metal-bars-on-the-windows,which-are-large,lets-in-more-air,and-they-can-see-more,and-metal-door,that-ya-gotta-squize-the-little-thingys,to-open,so..they-are-not,going-to-open-it-theirselfs,lol

Too-many-people-use-the-real-little-ones,plastic,only-a-few-slats,per-say,for-air-and-for-them-to-look-around,and-kitty-can-hardly-move-around.They-figure,kitty-is-not-going-that-far,so-why-bother-with-a-big-one.Thats-the-mistake-they-make.Its-kinda-like-sticking-you-in-the-car-trunk,when-you-are-being-taken-to-the-doctors,lol.

They-forget,comfort,is-everything.

Then-you-put-in-2-soft-clean-towels,and-a-few-of-their-toys.

Its-like,if-you-had-to-travel,would-you-rather-sit-on-a-hard-plastic-seat,or,a-comfy-overstuffed-chair.The-toys-are-a-comfort-to-them,and-a-smell-from-home.I-keep-their-travel-toys-in-the-carrier,and-they-get-put-in-their-bench-cage,at-shows.

Does-she-run-when-you-bring-out-the-carrier?

Is-she-hard-to-get-into-the-carrier?

How-does-she-ride,in-the-car?

Hi Flint and thanks for the reply.

I have a medium carrier for one kitty.  There seems to be enough room for her. We always put in soft towels or even t-shirts that smell like us or herself. Sometimes we do toys, but not always, so I will have to remember that.

Usually we put the carrier out the day before somewhere where we don't think she'll notice it, so she doesn't react to the carrier, but I don't know if it's because she doesn't notice it came out.

She had to go to the vet a lot last year. At first she was very hard to get into the carrier. But a few weeks ago we took her again. She gets upset, but seems more like she resigns herself, just meows a lot.

In the car she'll meow loud for a while then quiet down, especially if I talk to her. She doesn't do much at the vet office.

I should mention that when I said homebody, she can probably win the Biggest Homebody contest. She HATES the front yard. She HATES the garage. She is OK with the backyard, but doesn't ever think of jumping the fence. On the rare occasion when she sneaks outside to the backyard, we can easily bribe her back in with a treat. One time I accidentally closed the front door and didn't realize she was between the open front door and the screen, effectively gently shoving her outside. There were loud meows immediately.

In addition to the above, I'd put a sign on your front/back door indicating you have cats, dogs, etc (and how many). and providing an emergency contact information of either you or your vet, in case the emergency happens while you are not at home.

Sorry,lol,its-been-one-of-those-weeks,ya-know-how-that-is.

Glad-you-sched-feed,that-makes-this-even-easier,kittens-are-sched-fed,and-that-she-does-not-run,when-she-sees-the-carrier,too,is-a-plus.But-we-are-going-to-teach-her,from-the-beginning,just-as-if-she-was-a-kitten.This-takes-time-and-patience,it-does-not-happen-overnight,and-its-not-a-race,lol,you-don't-have-a-show-coming-up,lol.

I-leave-my-carriers-out-all-the-time,just-in-case-of-emergency,don't-have-to-waste-time-looking-for-them.

First,put-her-carrier,with-the-towels,or-shirts,and-toys,in-a-spot,near-where-she-eats,that-you-can-keep-it-out-in-that-area.Just-let-it-sit-there,its-so-she-gets-used-to-seeing-it,and-nothing-baddy-happens,she-is-not-going-to-be-loaded.Do-this-for-one-week,two,if-she-is-afraid-of-the-carrier,or-runs-when-she-sees-it.

This-is-so-she-gets-used-to-seeing-it,and-its-just-part-of-the-furniture-to-her.Cats-like-routine,and-everything-in-its-normal-place.They-will-patrol-the-house-several-times-a-day,to-make-sure-all-is-well.A-carrier,that-was-not-there-yesterday,and-a-carrier-that-means-baddy-stuff,upsets-them,a-mistake-people-make.

After-one-or-two-weeks,if-she-is-not-afraid-of-the-carrier,which-kittens-aren't,they-don't-know,what-it-means,good-or-bad,set-her-food,a-foot-or-so,away-from-the-carrier.Just-feed-her-like-that-for-a-week-or-so.If-she-ignors-the-carrier,and-just-walks-right-up-and-eats,then-we-can-progress-to-the-next-step.

Gotta,finish-this-after-work,lol.But-this-will-get-you-started,and-you-can-decide,where-to-put-her-carrier.
