Bestimus is about 12 weeks old.  He's been sneezing for a few weeks, but no other symptoms.  I took him and his siblings in when they were 4 weeks old (orphaned) and they had runny noses that cleared up right away just from being inside and cared for.

He did go to the vet, but the vet didn't seem to think it was anything to worry about, just a cold that he'd get over and I should just wait it out.  Isn't that an awfully long time for a kitten to be sneezing, though?  He has no discharge or any other symptoms and he is otherwise perfectly healthy.  He's active and happy, with a good coat and all that.  He sneezes several times a day and they're pretty wet, but his nose doesn't seem to be runny.

Kubla is about 16 weeks old and she also started sneezing recently, but only once in a great while.  Hester is 7 years old and has no symptoms whatsoever.  They've all had vaccines, but Kubla and Besti still have one more set left.

I started reading online about reasons why a cat would sneeze and now I'm really scared.  I didn't know much, if anything, about FeLV or FIV until now and now I'm terrified that Besti has one of those and that he's infected Kubla.  I feel really stupid for not knowing about this beforehand and I would feel horribly guilty if that's what they had.  Hester being a fully-vaccinated, healthy adult would be unaffected, I'm sure, but if my ignorance caused Kubla to be infected that would just kill me.  I don't know why no vet has ever said anything about this to me, they know all my cats were adopted strays.

So should I go back to my vet and ask for FeLV and FIV tests?  What if it's positive?  What if Besti and Kubla are both positive?  Do I rehome them to keep Hester safe?  What if one of them is positive?  Do I need to rehome the infected one?  Also, they've been vaccinated for FeLV, but I assume that if Bestimus is infected with it, it would have happened before I got him and Kubla would have already been exposed to Bestimus before then.  It wouldn't help then, I guess.

I know it's easier said then done, but try not to jump to scary conclusions. If they are sneezing with no discharge or other symptoms it could just be an allergy. One of my cats sneezes from the Tide detergent on fresh laundry. The fact that he's been sneezing for 2 months without it progressing is a good sign. Give them L-lysine for now. If it is a cold the lysine can prevent it from progressing. Try not to worry too much and call the vet make to make sure they don't need to come in and to ease your mind.

Hope all is well

Okay, you're totally right..I should relax.  A few months ago I was convinced my dog had bone cancer but she actually just sprained her elbow.  There are posts on another forum to prove it.
I will call the vet on Monday and try not to think about it until then.  Maybe refrain from reading about it.

He hasn't been sneezing consistently for that long, though.  He was off and on.  I don't know what that means.

I know what you mean. One time my cat ate a few bites of soup with onions and after reading about it on the web I was sooo scared. He was fine.

It wouldn't hurt to give them the l-lysine as a preventetive measure.

My shelter kitties have had a case of the "sneezes" many times and it was never anything serious.

Test is negative!
Vet says it's almost certainly herpes virus... which is not that great, but it's okay.  I had quite a time getting this test done, though.  My regular vet said they didn't even have the test.  I called other clinics and they said they won't do it unless a veterinarian requests it and I can't just ask for it.  So... that was weird.  One clinic said they'd do it, but only after a full exam, which of course they wanted loads of money for.  Finally, I went to the ``sister clinic` of my regular clinic and they just did it without any fuss.
