I am a 58-year-old disabled, single mom.  My 19-year-old autistic spectrum daughter lives with me.  I haven’t had a car in over a year and will most likely never be able to afford any car ever again.  I live in the heart of the Poconos in Pennsylvania.  I am months behind on my electric bill because I buy cat food for all of them. I can no longer afford to feed even one cat.  Honestly, I am scared to death now.

Over the years I have rescued homeless cats.  I’ve always done my best to feed them and give them shelter in the winter.  I was never able to pay a vet for any illness they had.  As of last year I was able to afford to take in a stray for the last time.  I have 4 rescued cats living inside who are all spayed/neutered and, to date, healthy.  But there are issues because they don’t get along and have to take turns being in the living room. There are at least 5 cats living outside who I feed and leave fresh hay and blankets in a crate on my porch.  I am a renter and can not bring in one more cat.  About a month ago someone dumped 2 more cats in my driveway.  These 2 cats are sicker than any others that were dumped.  NO ONE in my community, including any law enforcement, shelter, rescue etc. will help me.

Someone did step in and has paid the two thousand+ dollars vet bill for the 2 sickest ones.  One of them is back here from the vet.  The other is still at the vet on oxygen.  Both of them are contagious with various diseases and really should have been put down humanely. :(  The other outside cats get upper respiratory infections mostly in the winter.  One of them is blind. :(

I am disabled now and this is too many animals for my daughter to handle alone.  Many years ago I had an Alaskan Malamute for 18 years until he had to be put to sleep due to arthritis and old age.  After some years I was just going to get one dog for company for my daughter and myself.  But then hungry, homeless cats started coming and now it’s a huge mess cause I’m poor.  I rent this house and am on Section 8 from HUD.  I always wanted to have a house with a barn so I could help animals.  But my health got worse and I had to leave my job some years ago. I can now barely walk and we can no longer afford the cat food, litter, etc.  I desperately need someone to take all these cats to hopefully find them loving homes.  A few may have to be humanely put down due to disease.

I have no one to turn to.  I am at the end of my rope.  I have to believe that there is an organization or someone who will come and take them.  I can’t just let the indoor ones outside to live, and stop feeding all of them.  I didn’t go looking for cats.  People dumped them on me.  Now, I can no longer do this.  It’s at the point where I’m not even paying my electric bill.  I’m using that money to feed all these cats.  And even if I could afford this, I don’t have the health and strength to do it anymore.  I will cry for a long time when they are gone, but this not working anymore.  I’m already depressed knowing I have to do this.  If another one needs to see a vet I have no money and no car to take them.  This hasn’t been working for quite some time.  Once these are all gone, I will remove the crate on the porch and not feed any new ones that are dumped.  I never thought that people could be so heartless as to just dump animals and when I reach out for help, no one helps.  I’ve been begging for help for a year now.  I even contacted a state representative; Mario Scavello.   He can’t/won’t help either.

This situation is borderline hoarding, through no fault of my own.  I need someone to take them all.  I am no position, in any way, to have all these cats.

Bumping this up. Is there anyone in Pennsylvania who knows of rescue organizations that might help?

Have you tried contacting other Pennsylvania rescue organizations, besides the very local ones? Maybe another one can help? I think the odds of finding someone here who can be of assistance are slim :(

I found these by Googling -

http://www.mlar.org/ - at Chester Springs, PA

http://www.animalrescueinc.org/ - New Freedom, PA

http://www.treetopsrescue.org/ - Landenberg PA

http://1by1catrescue.org/ - Berks County, PA

And more are here -

I feel for you. You have a big heart and can't say no to a cat in need. Unfortunately, one needs big pockets to go with that :(

Thank you Anne :)  You are very kind and understanding.  Yes, I've searched as far away as I'm able to get them to.  I found out yesterday, the Luzurne County SPCA will take them, a few each week, and do their best to get them homes.  Now to get my older daughter to get the lead out and drive them there!!!

OMG!  You all are never going to believe this.  When I called Luzerne SPCA back to set the appointment day, I was told to bring my LUZERNE COUNTY proof of residence.  I reminded them that I told them I live in Monroe County and was told they take animals from my county.  Their reply?  "whoever told you that should not have.  We only take animals in our own county,"   Even though my county has no SPCA!  They gave me numbers to a few places I didn't know about; ALL FULL!

As far as it being NO KILL, they humanely euthanize after a period of time, rather than have an animal live in a cage its whole life.  I can understand that. :(  I'd rather have all animals happy, loved and taken care of.  But if their only option is to live in a cage, I'd rather they be in heaven.

Soooo, end result?  They are all staying here and gradually being put back outside, in and out first.  And in if one is sick or if the weather is too extreme in any way, along with good shelter, etc.  I spoke with a lady at EPPA who told me there is help for free cat food, etc.  I hope so. :(

Off topic but this is interesting and money saving!

I'm sorry about your troubles.  :(  Maybe an ad in your local Craigslist 'pet' section would help?  If you can upload pictures of the kitties I'm sure some local animal lovers would help you out with adoptions.
