Is it true that raw fish and meat are bad for cats?. I feed my Cucumella with pellets (Purina's Cat Chow for cats older than seven years containing meat and/or fish and milk in the morning. But I also let her have some small pieces of raw fish and meat a couple of times in the week. She will not eat them cooked. But I have now heard that this is wrong.

It surprises me because before the pellets "era" everybody fed their cats with raw meat and raw fish

Would appreciate to be advised in this respect

Many thanks

Of course that's not true. Wild cats aren't out there cooking their food! In fact, raw meat, bones and organs is what is BEST for cats, and what they're bodies are designed to use for nutrition. Cats are obligate carnivores.

Raw fish, fed infrequently is OK. But raw fish fed all the time can be a problem. This is because it is high in thiaminase, which inhibits the uptake of vitamin B1 (thiamine). But fed infrequently, as you apparently are, it should be just fine.

I feed my cats a homemade raw diet. No kibbles, no canned food.

Here is a good place to learn about cats' nutritional needs. The site is written by a vet: http://www.catinfo.org
