I finally have my Samsung Galaxy S 3!!! It's navy blue!

I had 11 months left on my 3 year contract with my telephone company and I have wanted to upgrade to a smart phone because my phone was so archaic. It didn't do anything other than phone in and out and text. There was no data plan so I couldn't do emails or browse the web. And it was so buggy. It would lock and was difficult to unlock. If you held the button too long it would either turn off or relock. And don't get me started on the phone echo when I was talking, or the fact that I didn't get my text messages for sometimes 3 days later because the phone didn't automatically delete messages and it would be tricked into thinking that the message box was full even if there were only 2 or 3 messages on the phone.

I've been calling the telephone company every single day for the last few weeks and speaking to different people at 2 different numbers, and it was always the same thing...basically, too bad, suck it up and live with your contract or pay us $180 to get out of it.

Which I didn't agree with because my cell phone is FREE because I bundle!  They charge my bill $30.00 per month, and then credit that amount right back. So I'm not paying anything for my phone, and the phone company isn't losing any money on my phone because they technically aren't charging me anything because of the credit.  So I was getting upset when they kept telling me I had to pay them $180 which they weren't going to be getting from me if I had kept the phone until the contract ran out.

This week I called on Monday and again on Wednesday.  I spoke to my friend on Wednesday late afternoon about going out tonight, and told her my dilemma with my desire to upgrade to a smart phone, and that I was going to go to Roger's on Saturday and get a new phone number and a cell phone through them, let my telephone company phone expire (again, not costing me money), and cancel the phone altogether at the end of November this year.

She took down all of my information and called them. She called me an hour later and told me she got me out of the contract!!!!! I have no idea how she did it. I know she talked to a manager (I did too), and she kept telling them "give me a reason to say given all of the good cell phone plans out there.", and she threatened to cancel all services and go over to the cable company (I shrieked when she said that because I hate the cable company here!).

So it cost me $99 for the Samsung, $40 for connection and I have a 3 year plan.

She's still not happy.  She tried to get me a better deal on bandwidth etc, and spent nearly an hour on the phone with the phone company supervisor. But got no where. However, she's going to call again tomorrow because she is upset that I had to pay $99 for the phone when the phone would have been FREE on December 31, 2012.   She said that Tuesday was a holiday, and the deal was struck on Wednesday, so that is really only 1 day into January and she feels that I should get the phone for FREE and get a credit of $111.00 ($99 plus taxes).

I told her to not bother that I was ok paying the $99 but she has all of my information still and she is going to phone anyway.  And I'll wager that she will probably get me a credit of $100!  lol

Now I just have to wait for my new case.  Funny thing is that my friend ordered 5 new cases today from eBay, and she showed me one of her favourites! Turns out is is the same one that I ordered only my case is clear and hers is white.

We went out for a steak dinner tonight. My thank you to her for getting me my smart phone. And she set it all up for me to. Now I can just fiddle around with it and figure out how to do things.

I have the coolest ring tone now too. An old fashioned telephone ring.  I can't stand musical tones because I don't twig into the fact that it is a phone ringing. With an actual telephone ring I'll know it's me :)

Now how cool is that?! Glad you got out of that mess! I hope she can get you the money back for the phone......what's fair is fair and she's absolutely right. And $100 is $100.

WhatsApp is a chat app for people in different countries and different phones to chat. My husband has an Android phone and I have a BlackBerry and we can chat on there, as well as to American friends without it costing extra money.

Register your phone on the Samsung Facebook page and you'll receive a 50% coupon code off Samsung goodies, such as the vehicle mount, and it's good for as many as you'd like to purchase in one fellswoop. Here's the site. You being a resident of Canada shouldn't matter http://smgm.us/69V (I believe, meaning the part about you living in Canada). If you have any concerns, ask them at 800-757-0280 (they're nice. this line happens to connect to a Texas-based center) Use this same line if you prefer to speak with a live human to order your goodies versus entering the coupon code online - they know all about the coupon codes. So glad you're experiencing Android. I'm part of the AndroidCentral forum, which is the Android equivalent of TCS

OMG! I'm totally addicted.

I downloaded "Swype Text", which actually comes up showing "SlideIT" keyboard.  Instead of tapping out the letters, you drag your finger around the keyboard to the letters. Way better for me because the keyboards tend to be too small for my fingers and I have a hard time with the keys.  I have a stylus but it won't work on this phone.

I love being able to answer the phone just by swiping my finger on the screen. I love being able to just put the phone to my ear and having it dial the number of the person who just called me.  And I love, love being able to check out the internet for things.

I'm still having a bit of a difficult time remembering how to answer my phone though!  lol I have to swipe  not press the answer key. My friend was phoning me on the cell yesterday and then texting me to answer my phone. I texted her back that I was trying.  She phoned me on my land line to explain how to do it! LMAO

I'm so newbie when it comes to a cell phone that actually does something.

I went to pick up my bling case at the post office today, but for some reason it wasn't there. It was supposed to be according to the delivery slip.

Awesome!  When my phone was acting up, I was looking at the Galaxy S3 ... I really wanted it, but Verizon's new upgrade process makes it so that I will hold off on upgrading through them for as long as possible (any upgrades through them removes the unlimited data plan I have had for years and knocks it down to 2GB instead for the same price). Somehow my contract term randomly ended about a year early, so I CAN upgrade, but I value the unlimited plan :lol3: I've been looking for deals online but its so new and awesome, it'll be awhile before it's affordable straight out!

Purrfectly understandable. I call them Vampirizon.

Natalie I'm new to Android too. Summer 2012. I didn't realize it's only 5 years old and didn't hit its stride until November 2009. The best 3 glide input keyboards from best to so-so IMO are SlideIT, then Swype and finally SwiftKey Flow. SlideIT always gets great reviews and deservedly so.

I did download the SlideIT. It says "Demo" though. Does yours?

It says Google Play full version 5.1. I've had it since the summer so i can barely remember if i bought it-- i figure i mustve because i sorta remmbr being very convinced by all the user reviews favoring it over others. Overall SlideIT is awesome because it has ridiculously easy casechange ability, a paste button, works fabulously with a stylus, extremely customizable, friendly, probably field tested to kingdom come. It also has fast adds but Swype has larger buttons but SwiftKey Flow remembers phone numbers fabulously and has largeish buttons. Sigh. All have good points that i'd love to magically combine!

Anyway if you need Android advice I'm a fairly good source of information and news. Here's my Twitter. http://Twitter.com/GGsolutions123

I guess I downloaded the demo version not knowing it was one you had to pay for. I do like it so I will definitely buy it.

Me too....my contract is up, but I'm not upgrading at this time. It's not really worth it. We've talked and talked about it and decided to let it go for awhile.
