My new stray cat had an explosive poop. I am sorry for being too graphic maybe but I don‘t know how else to describe it. It has been almost a week and he‘s had poop of all sorts although last couple of days had been mostly explosive soft stools. I call it explosive because it shocked the pants out of me when I accidentally heard earlier! What is going on? Thanks. Sorry if this is a wrong thread. Also do cats with parasites have such poops?I have no idea what I am dealing with! :(

Our Chumley was like this when first rescued. The best thing to do is get him to a vet ASAP - and with a fresh sample of poop. He most likely has giardia or coccidia or something, and they need to have it analyzed.

In the meantime, give him a really easy-to-digest food: boil chicken with nothing added, and make some white rice. Give him meals of shredded chicken in the boiled chicken water broth (no bone!) with some white rice mixed in. This is not a balanced diet, but for 3 days to a week, it may help settle his tummy until the vet can get him on the proper meds.

I'd also get him on a good human probiotic - an acidophilus supplement. If you can get to a health food store, just ask someone there for the best human probiotic they have. If they carry George's Aloe Vera Juice, get that too (unless they only sell the gallon size), and ask if they carry loose slippery elm bark powder - buy 1/2 an ounce of it. (This was what the holistic D.V.M. we saw had us do for our Chumley. His issue wasn't parasitic or bacterial, but it's very soothing to the GI system from beginning to end, and helps re-establish the healthy gut bacteria). In the morning and evening, take a teaspoon or so of the warm boiled chicken water, and add one teaspoon of the aloe vera juice (if you found it - only use George's - it's available in Canada. It's not organic (which is very bitter), but it has no preservatives in it) to the warm chicken broth - and then add 1/4 teaspoon of slippery elm bark to it. Let it gel up. Then mix in one capsule of the acidophilus probiotic (the one we use is an acidophilus+bifidus supplement, that's fine). You want 10 billion CFU - it may be labeled "double strength." Or you can just add two capsules of a supplement that's 5 billion CFU. He should just eat it up. If he doesn't like the slippery elm bark powder taste, you can mix it in to a very small amount of a canned food (preferably something grain free). This can be given to him for a couple of weeks. FYI, we gave it to Chumley - though without the chicken broth - for over a year. It's not harmful long term. It SHOULD be given to him especially if the vet prescribes antibiotics - just make sure to give the mixture to your kitty a few hours after or before he gets the probiotics, they should not be given at the same time.

Please keep us posted! Vibes for you and your boy! :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Oh wow! Thanks so very much for the info! I will look into all these! Tomorrow he goes to clinic. I hope it‘s just a normal thing. I‘ve never had a stray before. Poor cat must be in pain. :(

:yeah:

I am not sure if you can find this in Canada, but your vet might be able to order it for you - it IS expensive, but its weight is worth in GOLD. Order it online, or through your vet - all natural and the best "butt plug" there is - Diagel for cats :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
