I just wanted to share an experience I had with my cat Scratches (he's in my profile pic; he is a cool dude). He's three years old. Some weeks ago, he began to vomit regularly. I took him to the vet, who informed me after an xray that he had a small blockage. The vet instructed me to give him some olive oil for five days, which I did. However, Scratches still puked after every meal and stopped passing stool. He was also supremely oily, poor thing. I tried to make sure he drank water (which he did), and was comfortable (he seemed to be, he didn't stop sleeping near us). The vet said that if this continued, he would have to operate and set the operation day for a Tuesday. Scratches managed to pass a little stool on Sunday, but I was still pretty worried, since he didn't let up on the vomiting and he began to stop eating. That was about the seventh day straight, I think, and I was pretty panicked that he wasn't getting enough nutrition.

On Sunday, I got to thinking: when I'm sick enough to puke, sometimes ginger tea makes me feel better. I researched a little; ginger and chamomile are okay for cats, one site said, and I brewed up some and gave him.

I don't know if it was the tea (I kept giving him for about three days) or the olive oil thing, but he began eating like a ravenous wolf...so much so, that he began to beg us for our food. He used his litter box regularly and is, as I write, lying down on my sister's bed, being a gentleman.

This is my experience; maybe it's weird or whatever, but I think it's something to consider.

I am glad it worked out for you and Scratches.  I know ginger is often recommened as an anti-nausea homeopathic remedy for humans.

How is Scratches doing now?  I would keep an eye on him, just in case the Ginger masks a more serious problem.

He's back to his normal, aloof self! It's been about three weeks now, and he's eating regularly (begging just as regularly) and is as playful (which is...not much, he was never a playful kitten or cat). So I'm keeping a very close eye on him. Thanks!
