hello, I have a 2 year old Siamese(seal point)  pregnant cat. she is approximately 8 weeks pregnant. our male cat (the father) will not leave her alone. recently he has been following her around the house and he has become very talkative (he is a Bengal)...I was just wondering if this is something that I should be concerned about? or if this is normal behavior? a friend of mine has offered to take daddy kitty for a few weeks until after  the kittens are born so I was also wondering if that would be the best thing to do? Thank you all  in advance for all of your help!

I would both separate them for now, and neuter him ASAP.  I'd neuter her once the vet will - depends on the vet if they want the kittens to be weaned or not.  She can get pregnant again very soon after giving birth.

thank you for your quick response! we have already neutered Jasper and have already talked to our vet about getting Chloe spayed once the kittens are weened... I will be separating them within the next two days... is there a reason why Jasper would be following her around like this? and being so talkative? I apologize for so many questions but I am new to all of this and am very curious :-)

Presumably he can tell there is 'something' different about her, and Bengals are talkative cats and he's trying to tell you?

Good news he is already neutered, and that you plan getting her done as well.

No need to remove him from the home but do separate now, she needn't spend her last pregnant days being stressed and bothered

Set her up in a room with her birthing box and other needs

Also be aware males are fertile for up to 2 months and he can impregnate her in that time

This depends on the exact situation.  Ie, are they the best of friends, and this is why he is following her?

And she is enjoying the company?   Is so, you dont need to separate them.  Quite a few males are known to be good help mothers too. They dont even need to be the biological fathers, as long as they are good friends with the mom.

Is he bothering her, and she apparently would prefer to be left alone, at least, now and then?

Yes, you should separate them.

The rule nr one is, the high preg, and the mother, must be non stressed as far as possible.

The next tread about her and her hereabouts as high preg and mom you can do in the Preg and Kitten forum, if you wish.     :)

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

Jasper has left Chloe alone for now... although he still stays within sight of her... they are very dear to eachother... before she was pregnant, they would take naps together and play together all the time... my profile picture is a photo of the both of them cuddling together on our couch...  I have decided to keep Jasper here at home and just monitor them both pretty closely when I am home... Chloe however, has become slightly restless and when she eats she is not eating as much as she usually did... she just does pretty frequent nibbles... I put my hand on the sides of her tummy just a few minutes ago and I could really feel quite a bit of movement but it didn't seem to phase her at all... she just started purring and curled up next to me... I know she is going to be a GREAT momma... does anyone have any tips as far as her birthing goes? are Siamese cats prone to any problems during labor that I should watch out for? thanks again for all your help!

About tips there are surely many, it depends a little on how much you already know, and how much you are willing to seek out yourself.  Most owners of high preg mobilize resoures they perhaps didnt knew they had!

I dont think Siameses are known for especial difficulties. They are usually sound.  Although some forumists witnessed they tended to deliver  later than other cats, ie not the 63-66, but sooner 67-70 days pregnancy, with some leeway plus-minus.

Good luck!

Hello! :-) I have posted before in this forum however, I just had one more question.... Chloe my Siamese kitty is VERY pregnant... i had calculated her due date from the time I suspected that she had bred and by my calculations of 9 weeks she should have been due 5 days ago... BUT I have heard rumors that Siamese cats have a longer period of gestation (70-73) days... i can feel the babies moving and the other day she was laying on our coffee table right in front of where i was sitting on the couch and i could see the babies move... wow that is a sight to see! haha... she is still eating and drinking but it seems that her appetite has slightly decreased... IT IS possible that i could be wrong on m initial calculation of her due date by a few days... She looks like an over inflated balloon lol and has the sweetest most pitiful meow i have ever heard... Sorry, I'm just rambling now lol... anyways, if anyone has an idea please let me know? she has already picked a spot in the back corner of my closet (I cleaned it out, but some towels and blankets in there). does this mean that she is very close? sorry for all the questions and rambling, i am just very anxious for these little babies to arrive! they are going to be Siamese/Bengal mix babies :-) I would really appreciate any advice! thanks so much! ~Glee~

Greatly depends on the lines, ask your mentor what her cats tend to do

If she's just a pointed domestic - not an actual pedigree Siamese it will vary again

Is the cat in your avatar the "Bengal"? Because he's a brown tabby and white domestic :)

I didn't know that Tabbys could have leopard type spots on their sides and stomach? I know he isn't Pure Bengal... but he has all the typical personality traits of a Bengal... In anycase, regardless of what exact breed he is, I still love him lots! I don't know the exact line of Siamese the mother is, But, we have a friend that breeds them and she said that our Chloe looks like a seal point Siamese... but we are not positive on that...

Also, what is a mentor? I have never heard that term on here? I am new to this site so I do not know all of what goes on here... all I know is that my cat is really pregnant, sleeping and eating a lot, and seems to be overdue by my calculations... I do still see the kittens and feel them moving... advice appreciated! thanks!

Thankyou! she is still pregnant... yes, a weeks later... But now, rather than feel the kittens move, I can now see them move when she is sleeping on my lap... her appetite has slightly decreased... but she is still eating and drinking... I am hoping it is soon! I cant wait to see the little furry bundles of joy! I don't know if this means anything but she has been spending a lot of time in the back corner of my closet... I put some fleece blankets (ones that she absolutely loves) and a couple towels back there too just incase she decides to give birth in there... it is a dark and warm corner so I think she will be okay... she is now at 67 days of gestation give or take a day... so, once again, I am seriously hoping it is soon! thank you again for all of your help!

well, I guess my calculations were correct! she is now in labor! she will not leave my lap, is purring constantly and is meowing and looking at me with the saddest little face! I know that this is not full blown labor but just the beginning (witnessed cousins cat giving birth years ago)... I am just so excited to see some babies soon! yay!

I can't see photos too well because I'm on my phone, but if one cat is a seal point and the other a tabby, those are going to be some cute kittens!
Make sure and post pictures for us! :-)

I know a number of Siamese breeders and they take exactly the same time as other cats.

oh I for sure will! 2am and no kittens yet... I know it could be a while yet... she is now laying in her little nest purring loudly and meowing a sad little meow... and she gets really upset with me when I stop rubbing her tummy... I guess its comforting to her? how long does this part last usually? i'm anxious to see the little guys! but of course, I will be patient! :-)

I've never had kittens, but from what I've read here, it seems to vary from 2 or 3 all the way to 24 hours. I can't really give much more info than that.

that is what I hear also... now she has rolled over on her back and is sound asleep but still purring... she wakes up when I stop petting her tummy too lol... I had my hand on her side and a kitten or kittens kept kicking and headbutting my hand lol.... it is so crazy lol... I've never had kids myself so I can only imagine what that would feel like haha...

this is just so exciting! i'm buying a new car tomorrow, and then on top of all that, we will most likely have a few additions to the family tomorrow as well! I am slightly overwhelmed with excitement... and almost 3 am, I shouldn't be, but I am haha...
