My cat had kittens some yesterday (12/31/12) and some today. I had the same thing happen to the kittens. umbilical cord was tangled around 5 kittens but only two were injured. the cord was around ones (tiny) waist with both legs caught as well, cutting off the circulation from the waist down. another kitten ( tim) only had one leg caught. the kittens must have been tangled for a while because by the time i noticed it tinys legs were black and tims leg was dark blue and red. Tiny died not too long ago because it was basically paralyzed. he couldnt walk to eat. Tim is doing fine, the leg is swollen and pink but the paw is still dark blue. its warm but cold. no shriveling on tims leg.

Hi Aagart!  You can start an own tread on your new little family, if you wish. It will be easier for us to follow them.

Do you weigh them every day?  Its a good tip, so you notice changes, good and bad, earlier than otherwise.  All serious breeders, and most rescuers do so.

RIP  Tiny.

Welcome to our Forums,

And good luck to you all,  esp  Tim!

Welcome to the forums, aagart. Please consult with a vet ASAP. No online advice here can replace veterinary care and sounds to me like your kittens, specifically one of them, require immediate veterinary attention.

my cat (peach) had her babies this morning there were complications with the last one. she got stuck so i had to help her out. that was at 11:14am i left her and the babies alone so she could bond feed and clean herself as well as the babies up. i continued to check on them several times throughout the day but around 8pm i decided to go in and count heads to make sure there werent more. when i did i realized that peach had the cord wrapped around her foot and it was badly swollen. i got the cord off her poor foot was very enlarged thankfully tho its back to normal now. but the bad news was when i realized this i found one of her babies whom i call arcadia had the cord around her knee and foot as well i immediately cut the cord off of it and started massaging the leg/foot. its very swollen blackish blue red its warm but cold at the same time (no shivering no signs of distress shes actually the most active one of them all) and its 3x the normal size. i called the vet they told me to monitor them both throughout the night and to continue to massage both of their feet to help the blood flow. im doing my best but im still worried since now the entire leg and foot are a strange redish purplely black and very swollen still. shes trying to put pressure on it but after a few seconds she gives up. does anyone know what i could do til i get her in the afternoon? my cat is my life shes more than an animal to me shes my furr baby. i rescued her when she was just a small kitten (found on side of road next to mom who had been hit) and i dont want anything to happen one of her babies or her!
