I was searching for answers after my son's 6 year old female cat suddenly died New Years eve morning. I have to admit I was never much of a cat person but now that this cat is gone I can understand what you all feel.
I had a niece that passed away at just 7 years old from a rare childhood cancer. Before that happened she gave my son this cat as a kitten. He was never much of a cat person either but this meant a lot to him.
He could never really come up with a good name so the cat was just called baby kitty. She was always kind of small and thin although she ate well. Had all her shots but would not leave the house so she was an indoor cat. A few months ago she became very sick and we took her to the vet. They did surgery to remove her uteris and she has been doing just great, eating and actually putting on weight.
New Years eve morning my son came out of his bedroom and baby kitty came running out just like she always does, jumping all over me. She had this way about her. If you didn't pay attention to her she would put her paw on you to say hey, what's goin on, until you pet her. She was very normal and jumping around and I had some errands to run so I left the house. About 10 minutes later my son called me in a panic and said he thought the cat just died. It went under the christmas tree and laid down, sounded like it was coughing and died suddenly. He rushed it to the vet just down the street but it was too late. The vet said this is common in cats to have a heart problem that is nearly impossible to detect, and that they show no signs what so ever and suddenly can die within seconds. It made for a terrible new years for all of us and I find myself missing this companion. I was just wondering if anybody else has seen this happen?
