Greetings cat lovers,
Just wanted to say hello as am new to the site. I adopted a lovely long haired black cat (Victor) from a local shelter 5 weeks ago and he has a fair few health problems, bless him. He had been living rough as a stray and is bit battered looking with a crooked ear and cracked teeth. The shelter had got him checked out by a vet and they thought he was about 5, but he looks a lot older, maybe because of the life he's led. He has got chronic rhinitis (snuffly nose), and a heart murmur (mild) and he walks a bit stiff and doesn't want to jump much so I'm wondering whether he has got arthritis as well.
When I visited the shelter with my kids, they wanted to get a kitten, but I persuaded them that an older cat would be a more deserving case, now I'm wondering whether I need to get my head examined. The shelter said that his health issues and not serious, and he has had all his shots, etc, but he is so timid that at the moment he is spending most of his time sitting outside on the doorstep and won't come in until the kids are in bed. Once the house is quiet he has been coming in for a big dinner and to get strokes and his tummy rubbed, so am hoping he will come round in time and get a bit braver.
I am really glad to have found this site as I think will need all the advice I can get to help me with Victor, have really enjoyed reading all the cat info and stories so far.
Thank you
