A teacher at a nearby school called about the FOUND TURTLE flyer. She said her classroom box turtle was lost 2 years ago when the kids left him out in the yard for 45 minutes and wanted to come by to see if it was "Jack." She thought it was Jack and took him. I hope it is the same turtle that she had, cuz I would hate to think that I gave him to the wrong person, but how can you know if one turtle is the same turtle after 2 years??! Plus I was hoping no one was looking for him and he could stay with us permanently.

Wahh. . I really miss him already! It hasn't even been a week yet that he was home with us. Just yesterday I gave him a bunch of earthworms which he adored.

Maybe I will have to get another turtle cuz I miss him. . sniff sniff. It's hard to believe that I got sucked into turtle mothering so easily. How do kitty rescuers/foster mommies do it — love them then give them up???!

Empty spot in my heart. . .

Aww poor little turtle! I'm sorry you had to give him away
It seems crazy that after 2 years someone would claim him! How could she know that it was him for sure? In any case I'm sure he will have a great life *hugs*

Maybe you could go get another turtle

RV names sound good! I am sorry that you had to part with Mr Turtle, it sounded like you were getting attached to him.

2 years is a long time to lose a turtle. Strange, I knew they moved slowly, but not THAT slowly!

It seems a turtle is a good pet!

He went to turle lake - North dakota, then headed towards Turtle river in minnesota where he swam into turtle lake in Minesota, He walked up turle creek in PA then he grabbed a flight on Turtle airlines (very slow getting airbourne)and dropped into the Turtle Key arts centre in London. Back over the atlantic on the back of a whale and back into the garden where it was found! Its now had its two year break from school and has gone back to finish its degree.

kev - having a little fun- all the places above bar the airline are real places as well in the USA - look em up as well as that one in London

Well in addition to that trek kev mapped out, he also would have had to get to the Pacific ocean since I am in California — on the other side of the States!

I was so oooo sad this morning. Then I went out and happened to pass a school. There was a teacher and kids all gathered round in the yard area where they keep rabbits and chicken and it dawned on me that Mr Turtle was probably the object of a lot of attention and made a bunch of kids smile this morning.
That made me feel better. I still miss him.

Turtles are great pets especially with cats because they don't really compete and there aren't any territorial issues. My calico kind of stalked him, and the neighbor cat was awfully interested. . .but still it was a harmonious addition to our little family.

Thank you Jelly and Kellye. . .maybe I will get another turtle and name it Winnebago. . .

, Prayers that Mr Turtle stays safe,
thanks for being his guardian for awhile

Sam,

Thanks for saying you loved Mr Turtle. . .I feel kind of embarrassed that I got so wrapped up in this funny little creature, but I really did adore him — and you're right, I never would have thought to get a turtle before he landed on our front steps!

Um, I can't imagine that it's the same turtle lost two years ago -- but I sure hope the person who picked him up is genuine and will give him a good home at that school.

Hi Harry's mom and Kate

Y'know, I couldn't figure out a way to prove whether she was really his mom or not . .
Maybe I should have asked for a picture of something? No tags or collars or microchips for turtles.

I think I will write her a note saying that if they ever find out Mr Turtle was actually not theirs (she originally theorized that one of the kids took it home) or if they need to find him a new home, we will take him back.

By the way, I told hubby about Harry the (not-hairy-at-all) Turtle and he had a good laugh!

I'd be a bit suspicious of the "teacher" claiming to have "lost" a turtle 2 years ago. Sounds a bit far fetched to me.

Sounds to me that she wanted a free turtle and jumped at the chance (an opportunist).

I am sorry you got so attached. He was definitely a special turtle who found his way into your home &
. You were a wonderful mom to him. Bet he never had it so good!
