Hello from the Philippines!!  We have had our new cat for about a week and she is doing great!! Our daughter aptly named her "Athena". We have been keeping her restricted to our daughter's bedroom since she was easily frightened and is still somewhat pensive when we walk into the room. She does come to us now, and rubs against us, rolls on the floor and is very affectionate, but is still a little nervous to noises or new people. We have a mini pin that really wants to be friends with her, but we are taking it slow with the introduction.  We have put the dog in his cage in the living room and left the door open of the room where the cat is so she could come out on her own. She has come out and checked out the kitchen, come into the living room and came within 2 feet of the dog in his cage. No hissing or barking at all, so I think that is good. But she quickly retreats back to the safety of her room. We are doing this once or twice a day. Just wondering if this is the right approach or should we be doing something else to introduce them? We are just trying to be respectful of her need for security. Thanks!!

It seems to me you're doing the right things; too slow is almost always better than too fast.

My only experience was watching my friend introduce her to large dogs to a semi-feral cat, Mystique, we'd been co-fostering for over a year with little progress.  Love at first sight, at least on Mystique's part.  The two large dogs tolerated Mystique.  So you might find the love unrequited.

Here is an article about introducing cats to dogs which has some good suggestions.
