Hi everybody.

my cat Miles has been peeing irregularly lately.

The vet gave me no-sorb to collect urine for a urinalyses but Miles doesn't dig it that much! he won't pee in it.

Has anyone had similar problems?

What can be done?

thanks!

The best thing to do is confine him in a room with his litter box , food and water. He will have to pee and will use the litter box it may take quite a few hours but he will go..

Really the best way is to have the vet take the sample directly from the bladder, it's called cystocentesis. If his bladder isn't full enough, you leave him at the vet for the day, and they collect it when his bladder fills up.

Another option is for you to catch the sample in a sterile bottle, as he pees. This is how I've done it with my Mazy cat. I just stick the cup under her when she squats in her regular litter and she pees right into it.

However, for any sort of accuracy at all, that urine sample has to be back at the vet in less than 30 minutes from the time you collect it, or it's worthless. The timing is extremely important. Once urine hits the air it begins to change. Once it is mixed with stuff like a litter box surface or a collection jar, even a sterile one, it changes even more. The best way, really is straight from the bladder.

Welcome to TCS, keep us posted on Miles.

thanks for the quick replies!

Otto, the vet told me about cystocentesis but it seems painfull... that is why I was trying to avoid it with No-Sorb...

I have found this online:

My vet doesn't know of this though, so I'm not sure about it...

Did anyone here had an experience with this product?

I think I evantually would use the catch-the-sample method you have mentioned...

Thanks and happy new years!

When I needed to get a urine sample from one of my cats I put her in a large crate with her litterbox (with the no-sorb in it). That was partly so I'd know for sure which cat was peeing in the box. She definitely wasn't happy about being in the crate and it took several hours but I finally got the specimen.
