I'm Taking my "Binky" to Banfield Pet place for the free exam and just a rabies shot for now.

I have to put him in a box and tape it down, air holes on both sides. But it should be interesting.

Going to the county to get him neutered and his other shots for free.

Ya know I was only going to the Post Office that day when He was on my porch.

and I brought him him from out of the cold and fed him and let him sleep in my bed.

I never had a pet, but treats me better than my ex wife. and he just farted on me, omg it smells awful  gotta go

If you can possibly squeeze out the money for a secure top-opening carrier it will last for years and years.  I also highly recommend you put aside some money each month to cover unexpected vet bills - and indeed expected ones - worming, flea treatment, yearly vet check.

Yeah its a little tough, I can barely make it on what I get now. I'm not letting him out anymore. So he'll be strictly indoors and that will help. Plus my sister has had cats for years and she said She uses a lot of over the counter stuff or flea control etc...

My county animal protection people give shot and will examine cat at a very low price. The way she explained it is that if I were to take it down there

then they would give him all it's shot and make sure its healthy, and then charge someone else , who would be adopting it, just the fee's for the shots. They have 3-4 programs in my area. If it did get really sick I'd have no choice but to drop it off and let them take care of it. he would stand a better chance. I have to see my own doctors frequently.  I'm sure he'll be okay.

Congrats on your new fur kid! Sounds like you are doing all the right things for your kitty. If your kitty is going to be indoor only, you may find you do not need flea control but that's something you'll have to determine as time goes on  Banfield is in Petsmart, or at least most of them that I know of. You can check with the Petsmart folks while you're in there to look at carriers. Even if you can't purchase one now, you'll have an idea of what is available. Also, they sell those temp cardboard carriers which are pretty sturdy. I think you can buy them for under $10.

Walmart has a decent cat carrier for around $25. Menards has a similar carrier for a similar price. The carrier prices at Petco and Petsmart are terrible. . .

Thanks
, I found  a sturdy box for now but I will be looking for a regular carrier. My brother, sister and mother are buying me stuff for him lol.

So I'm guessing there is probably all kind of Flea control stuff. My sister works for a vet and takes care of strays all the time. Just found that out.

Don't see her much she lives 100's of mile away. But she dropped off a big bag of nothing but cat things at my mothers. I'm going to go get it once this snow lets up.

I'm going to play it by ear and from what people tell me and kinda deal with what comes along when or if it does, lol. Yeah I already googled the directions,

I go next Friday, maybe I can find a good deal on a carriers.

l second the recommendation to get a secure carrier. We tried a box for a cat back in the day and it lasted all of 5 seconds, lol. lf it wants to get out, it WILL get out.

Thanks so much for taking care of Blinky.  I forget--any chance you could be his forever parent?  You deserve each other and I say that in the nicest way.

The temp cardboard carriers are okay, but for the same price, you can get a used one at the Goodwill/thrift stores.

Oh, avoid all over the counter, supermarket type, flea collars.  Not effective--and worse.

If you're going to one of the regularly scheduled clinics at Petco/PetSmart, the vet will actually give the rabies shot without removing the cat from the carrier.

More and more people are telling me that, so I'm starting to lean to buy one. I mean even if something should happen to Binky, if it had another only

or anything else. I'd go to the shelter and definitely  adopt another. they aren't to bad and I'd be saving its life. so the carrier will come in handy anyways.

Do NOT use any over the counter flea control... .Hartz for example..... Try to get your sister to get you some advantage or frontline at a discounted price. Your kitty might have fleas right now, but he is ok - over the counter flea control can poison a cat.
If you keep him inside only, chances are he won't have fleas after the couple first treatments. If he has fleas, a tapeworms treatment is in order too.... That can be done with one pill - Drontal.
Take care, and congrats for the new kitty! :wavey:

Hi, She told me not to use any OTC stuff. She also sent me a list of pet supply places and also told me not to use anything if I'm keeping him in the house.

However said I was doing the smart thing by taking him to Banfield for a examination and rabies shot. He doesn't have fleas that I can see and he doesn't seem to be showing any signs either.

At least one topical flea treatment is a good idea.  Two, 3 or 4 weeks apart is better.  It will kill fleas that are hiding in your home (and they almost certainly are).

I have no problems yet, I'll see what the vet tells me then take it step by step .

Feeding raw is terrific! No odor to poop or farts! Go to the raw feeding section and ask about the benefits of making your own raw cat food. Cured my cat's diarrhea in 24 hours when vet couldn't do it in 4 weeks!

Oh wow Everything went really great, Just got the rabies shot for now.  However on the way home I had to go get some Bread and I thought I'd get Binky

A nice treat, when I was gone he created every body function possible, omg,  and I have a weak stomach, I put the windows down, pulled my shirt over my nose, hoping not to pass a police car, lol.

I then said  " ok I have a situation " I know nothing, I do know cats hate water so I took the carrier up the the bath tub, slowly turned it side ways, there were more holes side ways, so I put the shower on lukewarm and clean Binky totally off while he was in the cage, his screaming  really bothered me, so I did it in like 20-30 seconds. Then I opened the door he walked out jumped out, looked at me and started licking his paw, then slowly walked out of the bathroom. I placed several towels on the floor, so he could do his thing. I had to clean up this mess, window wide open, cleanser, had the door shut  off course. filled tub with hot water, let carrier soak in pieces. in about an hour I drained water rinsed off pieces with shower, flushed what I had to. refilled tub and added Clorox, left window open shut door and placed towels at the bottom of the door to keep Clorox from coming under the door and go out the window instead.

Well I was a little upset, I got Clorox on my Clothes, brand new.  I was disgusted, not with Binky, just had a very bad week trying to get help from my local animal shelter. I have no money, I'm on SSA Disability, but that's another story. I just through off everything, he went down stairs scared of me ( I thought he was mad a me) I went into my bedroom shut the door, turned on the fan, opened the window and shut the heat vent, I still smelled of Clorox in the raw yet and needed to settle down. So It turned out pretty crazy. lol, I think me leaving him in the car alone when I ran in and got bread freaked him out. but 5 more days will be 1 month and I feel I have been threw war with this little weasel of a cat.

So We finally met whiskers to face and I kissed him on the head and said, " well ya almost made it all the way, you crazy cat" and laugh and he fell right against my body and  "meowed " over and over then laid on the couch with me for a few hours, then I fed him and watched a movie then called it a night, he went back to laying next to me. after that seems he liked me a lot more than ever. lol

Well, having a cat is like having a baby.  It will likely introduce you to all the various bodily fluids.  Keep in mind it wasn't Binky trying to get back at you.  It was likely pure, unadulterated terror manifesting itself.

LOL, Yeah he was frightened in that carrier and when I left him alone he panicked. He doesn't know not to do what he did. I felt so bad for showering him off, they way he was crying.

But he had stuff all over him. I'm proud of myself I never scream at him once. I was actually extra nice to him, told him he was a good boy going through all that new stuff today.

How could any mist treat something so small and helpless. My goal is to make him never want to leave this house, make sure he has a full bell, a nice place to sleep and not have to worry about being abused.  everyday he get friendlier and friendlier with me, wants to play more, brings me stuff to throw so he could chase it. He goes to every rooms I'm in, yeah I'm getting the feeling he doesn't want to lose me. And I'll tell you what If I go out with a girl and she doesn't like cats, she is getting bus fare home and her salad to go. lol
