My 4 year old cat has just been diagnosed with arthritis. I would like to be able to treat her without having to it her on pharmaceuticals if at all possible. One possible problem is that she only eats cat food either wet or dry, no treats cat, dog or human. Do you have any holistic treatment options that I could try?

Krill oil. My kitty is 9, and arthritis has eaten away most of the ball joints in her hips. I was using salmon oil, and saw no difference in her mobility. I switched to 500mg daily of krill oil (I buy NOW softgels), and you could see the difference in her jumping and playing in just a couple of days!!

But you're going to want to give her chrondroitin, glucosamine, and hyaluronic acid to help preserve (and rebuild?) her joints. A good way to do this is chicken feet, if you've got an ethnic market of any kind near you. Just cut them up into bite sized pieces, she may like them? If not, toss them in a blender and mix some in with her wet food. They do have a relatively high (very small) bone content, so the extra calcium may make her constipated. You can either offset this with some chicken thigh or breast (plain meat, the best way to do it because the phosphorus in the meat balances the calcium), or a teaspoon of pumpkin a couple of times a week.

Thanks. I have given chicken feet to my dogs as a joint preserver but never considered giving it to the cats. Looks like I need to find a new supplier. How many would I give a day for a 10 lbs cat?
