Good morning, guys!

It's the last Friday in December.....I have no idea where this year went! And New Year's Eve is Monday night!

What are your plans for New Year's Eve this year? Are you doing anything special?

Rick has to work on Monday, but I have off work Monday and Tuesday. We're doing our standard stay-at-home-and-watch-movies thing. We'll rent 4-5 movies from On Demand and turn into bed potatoes around 5:00 or so on Monday afternoon. I'm making shrimp cocktails and our Big Sandwich to munch on. (A Big Sandwich, as we call it, is a loaf of round bread -- and I will make that Monday morning -- that we split horizontally and fill it with all kinds of meats and cheeses and tomato slices. Then we wrap it in foil and warm it in the oven until the cheese is all gooey. It's delicious.) I'm also making pan-fried onion dip and we have some crackers and veggies to munch on, too. I will enjoy a couple of margaritas, too.

About ten seconds or so before the ball drops, Rick and I will kiss; that way we're kissing in the New Year.

Oh, and I always mention this for New Year's Eve.......I always put a couple dollars into an old purse or wallet and I put the purse outside the front door. Immediately after the countdown to the New Year, I open the door and bring the purse back into the house. That way, the very first thing I do in the New Year is bring money into the house. It's supposed to give good luck and it means that you will always have money coming in the whole year. My grandmother did that for years and I've always done it, too. I don't know if it works or not, but it's part of our tradition.

Don't know for sure yet.  I do know we are going out to dinner in a nice restaurant, even have tablecloths, lol.  Haven't been in a restaurant with actual tablecloths in quite a while.  It's in one of the hotels around here called the Clarion.  Other than that, not sure if we're going home to spend the evening or getting together with friends at their home.  Just don't know yet.

We never go out New Years Eve. too many crazy peope on the road. I bought a shrimp ring, potato chips, cheese spread and a tray of little hot dogs in pastry, and we'll pig out on that. Also have an apple pie. If we survive until midnight it'll be a treat for us. Will also check movies, On Demand, Sy-Fi, etc. (sometimes they do a Twilight Zone marathom). so that'll be our exciting New Years!

I want to do nothing and stay at home.  That would be special to me.  Things have been way too busy lately!

Staying home here!  I have 2 small kids and a DH who would be in bed at the same time as the kids if he could!  I'm going to make a few appetizer type things for he and I to snack on.  He will sleep on the couch till I tell him it's midnight and then he will stumble to bed.  Same thing every year.

Hi Rigel!!!
I can understand you both wanting to work on New Year's Eve....it makes sense to me. I'm glad she will be able to stay at home with Theresia on Tuesday though. I bet your little girl is growing up so fast!

I do have a few promises for 2013 this time...just 2 or 3.
I just hope I can stick with them.

Guys, we love staying at home on New Year's Eve.....I guess that's just us showing our age. Part of it is staying off the roads, but part of it is just spending time together, too. It's quiet and it's relaxing.

I am working during the day on New Year's Eve.  We have dinner reservations with friends at a nice Greek Restaurant close to home early in the evening.  Hubby and I will probably watch movies and hang out at home after dinner.  I am not sure if I will actually stay up until Midnight this year since I have to work at 8am on Tuesday.

Hubby is off both Monday and Tuesday. He also took yesterday off.  We went out for lunch while running errands.  Last night we went out for karaoke. Tonight we will probably hang out and watch movies at home.

It is nice having 2 days off in a row this week.

We're having a few friends over for dinner and I'm making my family's traditional Christmas meal, Italian breaded steak. I have to have it at least once over the holidays or it isn't Christmas for me, and since our friends love it, this has become a tradition. Then we're going to a local bar nearby because another friend's band is playing. New Year's is one of the few times I like going out. Usually I prefer quite time at home.

I don't think we are doing anything spectacular... Last year we stopped by 2 different parties that we were invited to - I had just gotten back from NJ earlier that day and was pooped after a 12 hour drive!! We may stop by the one house we went to last year, they have an open invite to everyone. Though this year they are 20mi away from us instead of 2mi like last year. (And the girl who wanted to date the BF before we were together will be there lol that should be fun).

We kiss when the ball drops. I like that idea of putting money outside and bringing it in :) It certainly can't hurt! We are hoping with my new job starting Jan 2nd, our weekly side job we started, and tax return money, that there WILL be more money coming into the house this coming year (enough to actually BUY a house in Feb or so, since yesterday we were supposed to close on one and financing fell through). To a better year in 2013

We don't usually do much of anything, so I don't imagine it will be any different this year.  I usually like to fix a pot of blackeyed peas for New Year's Day (Southern tradition), you are supposed to eat one blackeyed pea for every day of the year for good luck.  Since moving to the Philippines, finding blackeyed peas has been a hit or miss thing.  I might actually have a bag in my pantry. They do shoot off a lot of fireworks here (year-round), so I could just go outside and watch fireworks.  Have to be careul, though, here they shoot guns into the air and stray bullets are not uncommon. I hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year's, please don't drink and drive!!
