My orange tabby, Sammy has been carrying his head tilted to the side and is experiencing balance problems. I have taken him to the vet. She wants to rule out an ear infection so has prescribed Clavimox. Since being put on Clavimox, he has had two balance episodes. He has been taking the drug for 2 and a half weeks. I am concerned that the Clavimox isn't working, and it probably is something more serious than an ear infection, even though the vet says to continue the medication for three more weeks. Has anyone on this forum had a similar situation with their cats?

I'd get a second vet opinion ASAP. "Vestibular disease" if August Disease is self-limiting, and usually resolves inside of a few days. Of course there can be many other causes of something like this. But there's no reason the vet couldn't culture stuff from inside his ear! I see no reason for such an extensive use of antibiotics - especially if they do not appear to be helping after all this time - without even knowing if he's got an ear infection!

I'm so sorry for your Sammy! :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

I just came back from the vet today. Today, the senior vet was on staff, instead of the junior vet I got last time, and after an ear scope examination to rule out a perforated ear drum and subsequent ear wash, he is 99% sure that Sammy has an inner ear infection. Sammy has already started showing improvement, even though he is still walking around like a drunk monkey. The vet says those symptoms will soon subside. It sure is a relief to see Sammy already showing improvement.
