Wait - why? Because it means there's another cat?
Yup. It would mean there is an identical momma cat still out there somewhere... :dizzy:

I should be getting a call verryyyyy soon, so there isn't too long to wait! :)

Don't worry, I will update. I want to type out a big thing, so I might not get to it tonight, but tomorrow definitely.

I will tell you that Marla is doing just fine. :-)

Are you ready for this???

Marla..

Is a boy. :thud:

So *Marlin* was neutered and everything went fine. They even gave me a discount! Of $175! So my total came down to $125 even.
I picked him up at around two and they said he'd already been awake for a while. He seemed fine, not as scared as I thought he'd be and they said the same.
The vet even personally came out to thank me for doing TNR. It was really nice. (I think they will be my new vet.)

I kept him on my porch all day and fed him at midnight just before I released him at 1:30. I was going to do it in the morning, but I decided night instead because of better weather, less people around, easier timing for me and cover of darkness to make him feel less stressed.
He really has been so good throughout this.. I talked to him constantly carrying him up and down the stairs, in the car and when I fed him. I told him right before I picked up or set down his cage so he'd never be surprised. I'd like to think it helped, and he never thrashed when I carried his cage.

I took a video when I released him, and I might put it up, though there is not much to see. He ran as Soon as I opened the door which surprised me.
I'm kind of sad to see him go really. I know I'll see him around, but I'm still tearing up a little.. :bawling:

:yeah:

i am very glad to hear that all went well. i know how stressed i was about my first one, so i imagine it must be a load off of your mind.

that is so nice of the vet to give you such a substantial break in the price, definitely a great sounding vet. i have had a couple of instances similar to yours and those vets have gained my utmost respect and appreciation.

i totally know what you are feeling regarding when you released him. every time i have released one i have felt that sadness, hoping and praying (which is a big deal for an agnostic) for their safety and that they will return soon.

once again, great job Minka

Awww.... :heart2:

And great about the vet!

So.... is this the kitty you've been seeing? Or there is another cat to try to trap?
It's the one I've been feeding lately for sure, it just means there is another brown tabby girl out there somewhere.

I'm still going to say Marla for now when I'm talking to him because that's the name he knows, but officially he is Marlin now. :-)

I haven't seen him since the release, but I figure it's to be expected that he doesn't want to return to the site of all this drama for a while. :lol2:

AWWWW :hugs: I know that feeling you had when you released MARLIN. :rub: It is bittersweet to see them take off and part of me feels guilty about the life they may lead but the other part of me feels very, very good about what I accomplished. Thank you SOOOO much for taking the responsibility to help TNR these cats. SO .... do you think Marla is Marlin's momma?

Thanks everyone :-)

And no, I don't think Marla is Marlin's mom (lol, there better not be a third tabby, this could get confusing!) The kittens she last had were in October I think and none of them made it. :-(
Plus Marlin is about a year old said the vet.
I just have to wait and see who comes around. Sometimes I go weeks without seeing a cat, so.. I mean, it is possible that I never saw her in the first place, or haven't seen her in a long time. We'll just have to wait and see!

Yep, totally out of our control when/if we will see these reclusive kitties again. Just so you know..... we all appreciate your efforts. We so need many, many people like you to step up and help get these cats fixed. A better world for feral cats then.:clap: :hugs:

Well, luckily Marlin/whoever else is out there LOVE free food. ;-)
I've got a couple spots where I put food down and usually it disappears within just a couple hours.
He's probably on the other side of the complex right now. The apartments I live at are split in two. Several building clumped together, split in the middle by a road. The other side is preferable to him because the dumpsters are lower, and it borders some woodland where there are lots of birds, rodents and lizards.
He'll be back though, I know it. :-)

As for TNR, I don't even think of it as going out of my way or anything. The vet said 'thank you for what you do' but to me it feels like 'how could I not??' I see stray cats everywhere.. It breaks my heart. I've pulled over after getting out of a drive through before and given away part of the hamburger *I* was going to eat, lol.
One of the projects I want to do, but can't afford right now is to trap all the cats in my friend's neighborhood. I think most of them are house cats, but I want to get them all fixed and put notes on their collars, advising to keep them indoors. I wouldn't normally do that, but that neighborhood also borders RIGHT on the 6 lane main street in our town..
