It's been snowing steadily since around 11:30 and it's not pretty outside. I left work an hour early. Hannah (the Tucson) is worth every penny we paid for her and then some. I put her in 4-wheel drive and took off. The highway is terrible with only one lane even half cleared. But I took my time and got home in about 20 minutes or so. Hannah went up the hills and she cruised right up the driveway, too. The snow has turned to a mixture of sleet and freezing rain now, so it was probably good that I left work when I did. (Have I mentioned that I hate winter????)

Good night to snuggle down with some hot cocoa....

We are waiting for the snow.  It is reported to be a few miles away right now.  Our storm warning started eight minutes ago.  We are settled in.  Got the roof rakes put together and shovels are at each door.  Barn kitties have their disks that warm in the microwave and beds full of straw and old clothes.

Dh going to barn in an hour to put up his horses hay net for dinner and then we will just wait it out.  Something nice about being housebound.

I hate winter too!  It's flat here and I still hate it!  We were on the rain and wind end of this weather system.  And the kids and I were able to stay home!  We got a Subaru last year and the most snow it saw was a heavy flurry that didn't stick.  DH was eager to test it out.  I was just fine without the snow!

Glad you got home safe and sound!  I hope the weather is better for your ride to work tomorrow!

Thanks guys! Made it work this morning with no trouble. Rick and I went outside and he cleaned sidewalks and such while I worked on the car a bit. The road in front of our house was plowed and cindered, but with the freezing rain, it was still slippery. I have quite the hill to drive up and down on my way to and from work, so that can be very tricky sometimes. But Hannah took it all with flying colors.

That's what happened last year; we bought Hannah right after Thanksgiving and got hardly any snow whatsoever......not that I'm complaining.

But we did want to know how she would do in the snow and she really was fine. I'm very leery about driving in snow and ice, although I seldom miss work because of bad weather. When I drove the Cruiser, Rick usually brought me back and forth when the weather was really bad; he preferred to do that because the Cruiser was really terrible in snow and he worried. He offered to bring me into work this morning, but I knew that I'd be fine. And I was.

Had I not had to come into work, we would have gone out to shovel a bit this morning. Then come back in the house and I would have made us breakfast with hot cocoa and maybe some omelets. Alas, work calls. I don't mind all the snow if I know that we can stay in the house for awhile and hibernate.

And I still hate winter.......

Glad to hear you made it to work okay, sucks that you had to go back before New Year.

My very first car was a 4-wheel drive Jimmy and that thing could make it safely through anything. Since then l've always driven front-wheel drive cars, and they're not nearly as good in our snowy, icy winters. Even with winter tires on.

The snow is pretty thick here already, l hope everyone manages their drive safely.

All we got here was strong winds and on and off heavy rain.  Right now the Sun is bright but it goes in and out and it's still windy.  I don't mind Winter but I really have a problem with snow and ice.  Last Winter was great, no snow at all...would like a repeat of that but I doubt that will happen.

Over the river and through the woods...
I hate winter too! I can handle the cold, I don't LIKE it, but I can look like Ralphie from The Christmas Story when I go out, and I can bundle up in the house. I HATE the snow and sleet/freezing rain. We ended up with probably 8-10 inches (no official count that I have seen yet) and it was a mess. I had work scheduled off yesterday thank goodness! Today, DH had to take me to work. The main roads were cleared, but we have to get out the dirt road (with a steep hill) that had been plowed once last night by a neighbor, then travel a county road for 1 1/4 miles before we get to the main route. And the county road is nothing but hills and turns. NOT fun. They finally plowed the main road so that you can see the asphalt so tomorrow I'm on my own.

Another 3 inches on the way tomorrow, so I doubt the kids will make it to us......I know 3 inches doesn't sound like very much, but they would be on the road for the brunt of the storm and nobody wants to spend over 2 hours driving in snow. So they're probably going to make it here on Sunday now.

And then we are to get hit with "something" on New Year's Day, going into Wednesday morning.

I don't think we're going to get away with the weather we had last year, Carol. No such luck!

The forecast for the Northeast doesn't look too good. Have you seen the reports from Russia? It's so snowy and cold that people's radiators are bursting. They're used to bad winter weather, but this year it's extremely bad.

I haven't seen that from Russia.....now that's cold and messy!

My friend who lives in northern Minnesota says that they have to plug in their car batteries at night (and during the day when it's really cold) so that the batteries don't freeze. His church is right next to him (he's the pastor) so he can just walk next door to go to work, but he says that even walking  next door sometimes calls for putting on a lot of outdoor clothing!

As for the northeast, well.....I awakened this morning to snow and more snow. According to whichever weather weenie we want to believe, we're in for anywhere from 3 inches to the possibility of six. We are not amused. The kids have been texting with Rick and they're now coming up tomorrow afternoon for our Christmas instead of today; I think had it just been our son, he would have come up today anyway, but our DIL said definitely not...and I feel better for that.
