We all had a wonderful time!
On Monday afternoon, Rick was working in the basement. I went down and asked him if he would put up the Tacky White Tree (TWT). We didn't have it up last year, largely because of Tabby, and I really missed it. This year, I wanted the tree, regardless of the cats killing it. Pretty soon Rick came upstairs with the tree box and he put the tree up. While he was doing that I made him sticky buns.....that man loves sticky buns; he could eat a half-dozen at one sitting. And then while the dough was rising, I put the blue balls on my TWT. Stood back, took a couple pictures and said, "Merry Christmas, Mom!" (When we were growing up, Mom always had her white tree decorated with blue balls. I thought it was tacky, disgustingly so. But several years ago, I decided I wanted a TWT of my own. And the rest is history. Our TWT always goes into the kitchen.) And yeah, the "kittens" got into the tree. No balls have been dropped or broken, but the poor tree limbs may not make it through New Year's Day! That darn Tabby! And Muffin isn't helping things any.
But I was happy because I had my TWT and Rick was happy because he had his sticky buns.
Yesterday Rick's parents and my family came here for dinner and we had a blast. I always have my brother and SIL bring the wine and we always wonder what kind of wine they're going to bring (this time it was a bottle of merlot and a bottle of blackberry....that blackberry was delicious!) We had dinner and dessert (and I had two pieces of coconut cake! Two of 'em! My sister and I had thought about that cake all day! We just love coconut cake.) and then we opened gifts. We all had such a good time. Rick and I didn't get much for each other (because of the kitchen), so it was nice to have a few gifts to open from everybody else.
Had to do a bit of work last night. I've been working on a graphics project for here at work and I haven't had time to get it all done at work, so I brought it home with me and finally found some time last night to get it done.....only a few minor details and then I can turn it in this morning.
We don't know now about Saturday with the kids. It seems that a major snow storm may be working its way up the coast to hit us on Saturday. If that happens, the kids won't be able to come up. Now we're thinking of getting together on Sunday instead. But we'll see.
We are to get hit today, too. Starting early this afternoon with snow showers, then all snow for awhile, before changing over to sleet and freezing rain, then rain overnight, ending with a wintry mix tomorrow morning. Driving home from work this afternoon might be a wee bit tricky. Rick took Hannah (the Tucson) to church on Christmas Eve and we had 2-1/2 inches of snow then...he said that Hannah did very well in all-wheel drive; she went right up our hills and the driveway with no trouble. After driving Clarence, the PT Cruiser, for the last 12 years and slip-sliding all over the place during the winter, Hannah should be a joy to drive. We got her last year right after Thanksgiving, but never had a chance to check her out in the snow as we didn't get much in the way of snow last year.
So that was our Christmas. It was really nice (even though it was our first Christmas without Mom) and we enjoyed being together.
How was your Christmas? Did you all have a nice time? Did Santa bring you what you wanted? MargeCat, how is your DH feeling?
